: CURRY AXLES(beware)

I purchased a set of curry extreme duty axles for a ford 9'', they guarantee they will replace for 50% of the cost if you brake them.
I bent one of the axles wheeling at the con last week and sent it back to curry for replacement. They will not cover it because it did
not break in two pieces. If you want your axle covered you better snap it in two, thats the only thing they consider broken. I have
had better luck running stock axles than curry hd axles.

I considered purchasing a set of Currie axle shafts for my nine inch, but when I went to their web site it stated that the process they use is to take an existing axle shaft and treat (harden) it.

I ended up purchasing a set of Moser Engineering shafts because they start from scratch and build the shaft completely out of an alloy.

GL with your next set,
Jay

Thats interesting that you mentioned the process that Curry says they use, when I told Kent at Curry I would be using Moser or Superior axles from now on he told me all the axles came from
the same foundry and I would be getting the same axle.

Yeah, Kent is kind of a tool, I went back a forth with him on a gear setup problem with a hp 9", I finally talked to a couple of the Currie boys and got it all straightened out.

More of question than anything...

Would you have to distort your housing or hit a rock very hard sideways to bend an axle but not the housing???

A hard side hit will bend the flange, but a good shock load can put a pretty good twist in one.

"A hard side hit will bend the flange, but a good shock load can put a pretty good twist in one."

That was my point... He did not sent "twisted", but bent. I was wondering if it was the flange, or currie said no because the houseing is flawed...

I am just curious after spending $3k for a custom front axle set-up....

I believe it was a twisting action, probably in the old sluice, I put a stock axle in and the housing is fine. I didn't realize it was bent until a guy pulled up next tobe and told me I should check my axle. I checked it and it was bent, Curry checked it and said it is bent by the bearing retainer.

To bend out that far would have to be either a side impact, or flawed material, normal twisting force would create a long, gentle bend throughout the length of the shaft. A bend by the bearing retainer could be flawed material, but Currie would have caught it, maybe. Did they send your shaft back? Slap that baby in and go out and brake torque till it breaks, then send it back. The only 9" shaft I've seen break like that actually sheared off just flush with the outside of the bearing retainer, luckily it was at the first stop after 200 miles of 80-90mph, towing a four place snowmobile trailer. He took off from the light all normal and everything, made it about a foot, then the Bronco dropped, then picked up again as he hit the brake and stopped in the middle of the intersection, whe he jumped out, his driver's rear 35" BFG was standing up under the rear bumper!

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make to curry, the material
must not be hardenened at the end of the axle and it bent . I already told Kent to send it back if it wasn't broken and he said it wasn't any good, but its not broken. From now on it will be moser, dutchman, superior, anything but curry.

You tell Kent that it doesn't matter that it is no good, it is still your property and you want it back!, then take it to a machine shop and have them stick it in a 50 ton brake press and snap it in two, then drive over the Currie and chuck it rigt through the front window!

You know Rich, you aren't the first person that has had the same problem. I've seen some badass Currie parts before and I've also seen their slapped together shit that they blame on the customer. A friend ordered up a loaded 9" third member for his race car and the gears were set totally wrong. Howled like a banshee when you ran down the road. We checked the pattern to see how far off it was...it looked like those fawkers didn't even try. Long story short: Currie told him that he must have installed it wrong and that all of their gear installations were done by professionals. If he had a problem, he should take it to a local drivetrain shop to (get this shit...) have them fix what HE must have broken.

Grrr:mad3: :mad3: :mad3:

A history of making excuses and refusing warranty. If the shaft isn't any good...then why the hell aren't you giving me another one!?

It's not broken, but it doesn't work...

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

That's some funny shit. But seriously, I think the press might be your only answer. But just have someone else who ALSO bought Currie axles return it... I don't think they'd believe you.

I had a similiar experience with Currie CRAP,
they don't stand behind there product the way they advertise, I have been using dutchman axles since my bad experience with currie and have been happy
with dutchman. Curry sucks

Is this a repeat? I thought I heard a similar story about a bent axle a couple months ago. ???
