I've got an 83 Burb with auto hubs and an 84 K5 with Superwinch selectable hubs. I want to swap the two. I pulled them both apart, removing the cover/selector, large snap ring, then inner hub/bearing carrier (for lack of better words and not knowing the real name for it). Behind that, there is a smaller snap ring that looks the same from there on in on both trucks. I didn't remove the smaller snap ring on either truck though. My question is, do I need to swap from the smaller snap ring back also, or can I leave that in place and just swap the outer hubs? Thanks!

yeah past all that garbage is the bearings which should be the same on both trucks, swap everything from the bearing nuts, the nut with the 4 notches on it, out.
hell since your tearing it all apart, why not throw those autohubs away and run manuals on both. those autos are the first thing i pitch when i buy a chevy and id go ahead and regrease those bearings too while your in there

Well, I got it all back together before I got inside to read this. I only ended up swapping the stuff forward of the smaller inner snap ring. Everything seems to be good. The burb has fresh grease everywhere, and the K5 is a parts truck, so I just put the autos back on it to keep everything together and closed up. Just in case. Thanks!!

that snap ring is to keep the shaft seals pulled up tight to the back of the spindle, not needed and not allways transferable. the reason why 10b stubs are different than d44 is that snap ring groove, before the 10 it didnt exist. if you dont have it you wont miss it.
