the sami wont turn over unless I jump it. Alt has been checked and works fine battery was checked a month ago. I'm sure its low now but why doesent it run off the alt power?

Also when the ground is off the battery it dies. shouldent it still Run.

I need ideas Thanx CHUCK

It should still run with the battery out. It sounds like you could have a short some were in the system.

You could have a bad alt. or voltage regulator. Kragen or Napa can check simple electrical problems like these for free with their roll around cart. Under normal operating conditions, your Alt. will charge the battery. If it does not charge it, you good battery will eventually go dead. Also, check to make sure that all your battery terminal posts are clean, and the wire nuts are tight. check the Alt. feed cable to the battery to make sure that it is not broken and that it is tight as well.

Be careful. By lifting the ground, that creates a floating ground and can fry many parts of your electrical system including your computer (brain). Why wouldn't you lift the positive instead?

I am a Car Security and Stereo Installer... The biggest problems we found in a vehicals electrical system were the shorts in peoples aftermarket electronic equipment. Most of the time for us it was people who tried to install there own amps...and did it poorly. My advice is check your wiring on all your after market electronics....stereo, amps, lights, rock lights, winch, also with suzuki wiring check the tail light wires and connectors for chassis grounding problems.

Another thing to check if you a serious off-roader is if your fuse box and/or ECU has gotten wet or contains water or massive amounts or condensation. Your heater might have done what my 86 sami has done... The vent below my windshield on the hood(I forget what its called) leaks when I wash the zuk or when I do really deep water crossing and the water leaks into the Heater box and if the fan is on sprays everywhere. But that might just be my zuk....

Hope any of this helps...

NEVER DISCONNNECT THE BATTERY WHILE THE MOTOR IS RUNNING

The battery is a key component in the electrical system. It's basically a BIG capacitor that filters the AC charge from the alternator! Without it, your entire 12V system can see spikes over 100V. Kiss all your electronics goodbye!

What do you mean by "jump it"? Are you jumping the starter cylinoid or just jumping to the battery? Have someone put a meter on the battery while you hit the starter. Make sure your 12V does not fall off. An open plate inside the battery can cause this, and when you turn on any electrical load (such as the lights) the battery will drop to 5-6V. The starter cylinoid will not engage below 7 or 8V.

Always remember Sami's have a very weak starter switch. Make sure you are getting power to the starter cylinoid. Check to make sure you have solid 12V at the spade terminal on the starter cyl. when the switch is in the start position. As the switch starts to go, that may drop to 8-10V and will not activate the starter properly. If that's the case, install a relay inline to take the load off the switch.

Yeah dude, it a dead alternator. Its time to get the GM atternator upgrade.
As for the surge stuff, it's not true, your battery is a battery not a capicator.

seems this topic has come up alot lately. if it's not your alt. check all your grounds to make sure they are all good.
