: 08 Ford Sd Mpg?
transformer cj5 01-20-2008, 03:21 PM what are new 6.4 sd mpg'n?
what power packs are you running (programmer, intake, exhaust)?
just pruchased one and looking at buying all of above listed
bhaugen 01-20-2008, 04:01 PM I don't have one, but everthing I have heard is they get horrible milage. Some of the guys I talked to in the oil field in Williston ND that are running F-450's are getting 8-10 mpg. The F-250/350 srw were getting 12-13mpg. Granted these are work trucks and are driven hard.
gilraine 01-20-2008, 06:33 PM according to one of my friends dad, his 08 F-350 DRW gets 13-14 empty and 10 with the goose trailer on.. the trucks got 3K on it......
transformer cj5 01-21-2008, 01:53 PM yeah i am hoping to get 17 18 mpg with the basic program, intake and exhaust
ill tell you what you cant beat a cummins
22 city 25 hwy

transformer cj5 01-21-2008, 03:35 PM damn i figured they had probs just cause they are fords but damn!!!!!!
o well its a work truck, i am gonna runthe wheels off that damn thing!
i usally drive about 60,000miles a year so will see what happens!
ddestruel 01-21-2008, 10:45 PM dont rule them out yet. we've got 5 left, i 6.4 and 4 6.0's down from 9. i refuse to buy a dodge 5500 till i see how they perform, right now im phasing in GM's even though im a huge dodge fan. a 550 is a 550 not a 3500 but ive got one 04 with 40k miles and 3 months in the shop. the 6.4 is sucking hind tit right now too with several issues that have kept it in the shop. a down truck doesnt earn me anything
ddestruel 01-29-2008, 02:49 PM :eek:6.4 bit the dust pretty good this go around ... cracked a head.... 2 turbos no chips on any of the company trucks. this one just cleared 30 days in the shop in less than a year. Hello CA lemon law, that one's outa here.

How does Ford handle the warranty on company/commercial vehicles? Are they the same as personal vehicles or do they try to weasel out of warranty claims?
ftoy507 01-29-2008, 05:16 PM My 03 SD 7.3 got 19-20mpg with hypertech installed. 15mpg without. This truck blew 4 transmissions before 120K miles. Yes, I am hard on trucks. I think it was trans temps from the programmer. Dealer said they found a "footprint" from the programmer and would not warranty the third>
My new 06 SD 6.0 gets 12-14mpg no programmer installed. I would like to improve MPG with the programmer. I will not because this truck has the bumper to bumper 100k mile warranty.
Just drove the new 08 SD. It will blow the doors off my current SD. I also drove the Chevy. Super nice truck with excellent power. I think the SD will blow it away and tow better.
I am probably going to buy the Chevy because the LTZ with all options is cheaper than the king ranch with all options. Plus this is the first year for the ford 6.4. Ford has a history of major problem in the first years of a new diesel motor. I cant tell you how many people I have known with early 7.3s and early 6.0s that had major problems.
Kwille 01-29-2008, 05:38 PM Just made a run from Des Moines, Iowa to Columbus, Ohio and back. Averaged 11 mpg pulling a goose neck.
Airpup26 01-30-2008, 01:07 AM I cant tell you how many people I have known with early 7.3s and early 6.0s that had major problems.
Ehhhh...the early 7.3's were pretty problem free. However the 6.0's are a diff story.

its pretty black and white 100k on the motor and whatever the drivetrain warranty is. they dont weasle out much so long as nothing is modified, they cant weasle out too much commercial companies have deeper pockets than private individuals and attorneys on retainer.:D thats whos been cleaning up all my 6.0/6.4 lemon law or factory buy back dealings. it jsut really sucks having equiptment that gets less use than your 10 year old stuff before you have to sell it or get it bought back
7.3's were rock solid so long as you didnt have a automatic

The early 7.3 may not be accurate. The people I remember were probably pre power stroke.
My personal 7.3PS stroke was very solid. Motor never had a problem. I did replace several transmissions.
early 6.0 seem to be major problems.
OffRoad 02-01-2008, 07:22 PM there is one at work used to deliver building supplies. got it this past summer (07).
it's a f450 2wd, diesel, stick. 14 foot flatbed. not used for towing. it's rated to carry over 7000 lbs. a pallet of salt is a ton and it's nothing to have 2 or 3 pallets on it.
it was getting 11 mpg in the summer, i think it's down to about 7 mpg now. the onboard computer display says we're using 28 liters per 100 km. so that works out ot 8.5 US mpg. it's about 10 CAN mpg.
Sillyneck 02-03-2008, 08:13 PM I worked on an 08 450.... ran SAWWEEEEET.... except it was gutless and never got better than 8.5mpg. I've seen others get sick mileage though. It's going to be a hit or miss like the 6.0..... some are sweet... some suck ass.
If you want to use a diesel in a drive through that 6.4 is carlike :)
