My gf's cherokee is making an awful squeeling sound at idle and when i first step on the gas. It sounds like a loose belt, however she just got the belts changed and they feel alright. I had this in Chit-chat earlier and people were saying there is a problem with the idler pullies on these trucks, does that sound like it's the problem? If so what should i do? She had the belts changed, drove to baltimore from CT and everything was fine but when we drove this morning the noise started.

Thanks,
Steve

check the alternator as well, make sure the case bolts on the alt didn't come out. I replaced my idler pulley and it still made this awful noise. the little metal fan on the front of the alt was grinding into the case.

It kinda sounded like a cricket. . .

Check the tensioner pulley. Mine is squeelin like a pig cause it's rubbing on the mounting bracket. Apparently the bearing inside is prone to wearing out. You can get the whole pulley from the dealer for $$$$ or you can just get yourself the bearing and DIY.
