: where to buy rims where you can choose backspacing
Super Steve 01-21-2008, 07:42 PM i just bought some 42" tsls now i need to mount them, 16.5s, i wanna run a 12 inch wide rim. but i cant find a place that sells rims where you can choose your own backspacing. anyone know of a place?
Thanks
Steve
abig84 01-21-2008, 07:49 PM you can try looking around on this site
http://www.ntwonline.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=48&Product_ID=2202&CATID=11
you can pick the back spacing on those, but they are 15inch rims. im to lazy to look to see if they have other sizes
r0nin89 01-21-2008, 08:18 PM Summit will do them but they are going to be a generic style and unpainted. You have to call and sometimes they'll give you the run around but if you get the right guy on the phone they'll hook you up. Run around $75 a wheel and you have to call.
Tim84K10 01-21-2008, 08:36 PM Stazworks! Custom to the bone, any way you want them.
Grumpy_old_fart 01-21-2008, 09:29 PM you can try MRT wheels too, if you just want steel wheels.
panty dropper 01-21-2008, 09:42 PM schwabs and Americas tire give you the option when you order the rims, and special backspacing can be done, they charge like another 20 per rim for special sizes, never had a problem finding what I wanted.
bigyellowjimmy 01-21-2008, 09:53 PM are you going to run a 16.5 without a beadlock?
toobad4u 01-22-2008, 10:20 AM I ordered mine from summitt racing. They came from U.S. Wheel. I ordered 17" with 3.5" BS. Most of the production 17 wheels I found were 5 or 4.5" bs.
Call U.S wheel, and talk to Johnny. He will get you the part numbers to call Summitt with.

Super Steve 01-22-2008, 12:49 PM yes 16.5 without bead locks,
toobad4u thanks for the info
mmk5blazr 01-22-2008, 04:10 PM [QUOTE=Super Steve;7770586]yes 16.5 without bead locks
dont plan on airing down with 16.5 x 12" wheels & no beedlocks,16.5 realy
bad about debeading w/o locks.may want to search 16.5 wheels before deciding.

X2
I had 16.5x10 wheels on 12.5 tires with 20 psi and blew a bead pretty easy, luckily I had a spare.
If I were you since you are buying new wheels just spend a little more and get bead locks :D
bigyellowjimmy 01-22-2008, 07:30 PM agreed, 12" wide 16.5's will be terrible about losing beads.
Go with humvee rims....
Super Steve 01-22-2008, 08:02 PM but its gotta be street legal, would it be more efficent to run 10inch wide?
bigyellowjimmy 01-22-2008, 08:05 PM Oh, I see.....so what are you going to use this rig for?
Grumpy_old_fart 01-22-2008, 08:13 PM I had MRT wheels make me a pair of 16.5x14s with a 5 inch backspacing, and a 5 on 5.5 pattern. I put the tires on em.... and I only run 3-5 lbs of air in the snow, going slow. in the mud, i put 15 lbs, and dont have any issues.
I am going to install some wire ring runflats inside the bead area to keep the tire seated on the bead, though. (basically weld a wire around the wheel so the tire cant slide off the tapered bead.)
6.2Blazer 01-23-2008, 02:49 PM Researched this quite a bit last summer when looking at 17's. Summit could get custom rims (standard was 4.5", and they could only go down to 3.5" on the 17's) however I was quoted a 4-6 week delivery time and the price was almost double since it was no longer a "off the shelf" rim. Pro Comp brand lists some custom backspacing on different rims but I found the availability is pretty sporadic.
florida4x4 01-23-2008, 03:36 PM Stazworks 16.5" double beadlocks.
Super Steve 01-23-2008, 07:43 PM this will be my DD/weekend wheeler, until i start to cry from gas, then it will take its own course from there
millertime101 01-25-2008, 06:00 PM Staun internal double beadlocks if you already own the tires would
be another choice. These are also DOT approved street legal.
Super Steve 01-26-2008, 12:15 PM the tire its self says it recomends a 9.75 rim width. why is that? does it hold the bead better with the skinnier rim?
Tim84K10 01-26-2008, 09:41 PM Yes, of course it will hold a bead better with a skinnier rim.
16.5s are really bad without beadlocks.
