: how should i mount my trac bar ( 3 pics )
bryans 86 01-22-2008, 01:27 PM ok i was going to mount it like this and machine some spacers to take up the slack .. but it kinda has some angle to it and im not sure if this is ok ?
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f279/fordslowsdime/100_0443.jpg
then there is this option
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f279/fordslowsdime/100_0442-1.jpg
and then i could make a spacer and put it out even futher so it would line straight up.

whats the consences ?
Hvy_Chevy 01-22-2008, 02:08 PM angle front to back isn't a big deal.
bryans 86 01-22-2008, 02:17 PM sweet . i guess im just going to box in the mount and do option 2 .. does anybody know what happened to the post about somebody doing a ram assist steering on there sammy with toyota i think ? he had prices and oart number . i cant seem to find it ?
moveaside 01-22-2008, 05:36 PM Gusset the mounts and waybe use a thicker material for a bracket or is it too late you welded them?
phil_j 01-22-2008, 05:41 PM Is that where your upper spring mount is staying?
I see a lower link already in, and since you're mocking up a track bar, I presume your axle will stay roughly in the same location as in the pics.
Hvy_Chevy 01-22-2008, 06:06 PM looks like your coil mounts aren't lined up top-bottom
hope that's not your final track bar design....

Based on the above picture, your track bar is way too short. It needs to run at the same angle as the drag link and be as close to the same length as you can get it. With the way yours is set-up in that pic, the drag link and track bar will be moving in different arcs when the suspension flexes.

bryans 86 01-22-2008, 07:25 PM well i had the axle all the way forward to see how it would look. thats why the springs are all crooked. once i get the my new pitman arm the trac bar will match up faily close angle wise just not lenght wise . . i could try to mount it down in front of the passenger side spring but that would give it a steeper angle then having it mounted on top of the pumpkin. (plus i just finished welding the axle mounts on earlier today ......rrrrr) but it could be moved down with if it need to be . im thinking of doing ram assist steering so would that help matters ?( ie trac-bar traveling in different arc the drag link ) thanks for any input
cherokee pete 01-22-2008, 07:30 PM ya way to short, there are a ton of pics on here, look at any 3 link build. you will see the difference in yours and how it should be done.
bryans 86 01-22-2008, 08:21 PM do u have a link to it ?
vhamacalvars 01-22-2008, 08:45 PM Check out Ruff Stuff, they have a great panhard axle mount bracket that will offset your panhard bar enough to clear your springs. With the bracket you can adjust the height of your panhard bar. Ask for Dan. He has more information on this stuff you could ever imagine. Tell him your from Pirate and he'll give you a screaming deal. By the way, your rig is coming along great. Keep the pics coming.
Here's the link.

Hvy_Chevy 01-23-2008, 05:09 AM you want the mounting points for the track bar and drag link to be parallel
phil_j 01-23-2008, 08:55 AM For what it's worth, when I mocked mine up, minimizing bumpsteer was near the top of my priority list. I ended up with my panhard/trac bar well within .1" of my draglink, both in terms of height at the frame and axle end, and in length. Length is 35.5-37 inches (I had to shorten it 1.5", and don't remember if it started or finished at 37   ) Granted, everything's not finished and finalized yet, but it's getting close, and that's a toy front axle under a zuk, 3 link + panhard, so better lengths and angles are are definitely do-able.
bryans 86 01-23-2008, 06:12 PM damn i wish i had posted this first before i finished stick welding the crap outta the axle mount for the trac bar... i think ill buy those brackets and mount it inbetween the coil and the kuckle and tie it all in.. thanks alot guys . this foum is the sole purpose of me even attempting this link set up .. you guys are big help .
oo and hvy chevy how did u even get that pic ........ ???
Indyguy 01-23-2008, 06:20 PM im thinking of doing ram assist steering so would that help matters ?( ie trac-bar traveling in different arc the drag link )
No. Full hydro would allow you to mount the track bar however you wanted (though I'd still recommend as long as you can to decrease the lateral movement of the axle while flexing... and parallel to the ground is also optimal with full hydro); but there is still a drag link with ram assist and it will still be moving in a different arc than the track bar.

Hvy_Chevy 01-24-2008, 05:16 PM um, gears of course
bryans 86 01-24-2008, 08:55 PM yeah just ordered my 6.5:1 along with a set of solid transfer case mounts and a flat toyota pitman arm drilled for fj 80 ends . still might have enough to do a 1.6 8v also .....(gotta finish off selling my zj lift ) going to biuld my trac bar bracket sunday thinking of welding in a piece c channel on the passenger side of the axle so it faces forwards and then build up on that ... (confusing i know ) ... see how it turns out
