In case you don't all wander over into the Surprise Canyon Forum very often here's a link.
Like I said in another thread, if you can go to the Hammers on a whim for a weekend of fun, you can spend one day giving back at this clean up in Surprise.
Mustard Dog 01-23-2008, 09:53 PM Wow, 24 hours and a single reply, you people all fucking suck:shaking:
DoveTail96 01-23-2008, 10:06 PM Sorry man. If I was there I would..
Mustard Dog 01-23-2008, 10:16 PM Sorry man. If I was there I would..
Appreciate it;)
Problem is that a majority of the replies to this topic are from people way too far away. Really baffles me as to why all the 'hardcore regulars' haven't chimed in yet:confused:
scraprock 01-23-2008, 10:29 PM Cuz most "wheelers" are all talk. Whine and moan about how they hate the land being taken away, then when an opportunity to do something about it arises... they don't do squat about it. :shaking:
See you there!
bob91yj 01-24-2008, 06:18 AM Going to be in Parker for the Parker 425 that weekend.
Chris 01-24-2008, 09:41 AM I'll be there and so will some people from Point Mugu four wheel drive and the Axlesnappers, many of whom do do not post here. I know of six for sure at this point.
losekannon 01-24-2008, 09:54 AM Stuck in Iraq right now. If I was back at home I would be down for it.
luvrox 01-24-2008, 05:24 PM Bump
miguelitojeep 01-24-2008, 05:42 PM school and work barely allows me to wheel as it is. Also pretty long drive for me with gas prices...I know excuses excuses...
Chris 01-24-2008, 05:45 PM Then why post? You'll have lots of cash when there's no place left wheel, no?
luvrox 01-24-2008, 08:22 PM school and work barely allows me to wheel as it is. Also pretty long drive for me with gas prices...I know excuses excuses...
What I see here are just lame excuses.:shaking: I believe you are trying to say, you have the time and money to fix your rig and go wheeling but it’s up to others to make sure you will have a place to go? With that logic may I respectfully suggest where you can go. :mad3:
school and work barely allows me to wheel as it is. Also pretty long drive for me with gas prices...I know excuses excuses...
I'm working till midnight on Friday, then a quick drive home to shower and eat then pick up a person and drive out there from Ventura. Don't give me this work and distance crap. And to top it off, I haven't wheeled in well over a year so this is some pretty weak sauce.
RE:Todd 01-25-2008, 09:53 AM school and work barely allows me to wheel as it is. Also pretty long drive for me with gas prices...I know excuses excuses...
OOOHHH and how far is it. Don't forget, we've seen you pictures on the Hammers threads :flipoff: :flipoff: Oh yeah, the red guys are there for a reason
mobil1syn 01-25-2008, 12:54 PM school and work barely allows me to wheel as it is. Also pretty long drive for me with gas prices...I know excuses excuses...
im on east coast for work and unable to go, however i will gladly give you the $40 for gas. that way i can wheel there when i get back home.
luvrox 01-25-2008, 09:35 PM Ahhh, you may want to have someone hand him the 4d when he has shown and actually done some work.:evil:
Beat95YJ 01-25-2008, 10:03 PM Well as I have posted in 1 of the 50 threads on the subject, I am trying to get there. As I will have been away for every weekend for months, it will be a challenge.
I was much more amped before everybody jumped on the bandwagon at the last minute. Support it early.

As you are "defending our freedom" in Japan is it really required for you to be an asswhole? You aren't going to show because of your commitments. I am sure the kid does what he can. He is trying to build his future. I respected you until this comment. You have a way to go to redeem your rep.
If I knew him, I'd pay for his gas. But that is irrelevant. Ii do not know if I can make it, but I will pay for his gas if he shows.
Miguelito pm me if you decide to move forward. If you still cannot make it, I will not judge you negatively.
Beat95YJ 01-25-2008, 10:06 PM And all the others who spoke shit to the kid, fawk you. I remember college, it sucks and you scrounge for beer money.
Give him a chance, years later it is likely he will donate heavily. I do, to my college, land use, etc.
Chris 01-25-2008, 10:24 PM MIguelito, there are people coming form VEntura that have empty seats. If you want to go, we'll find you a ride.

i know a few folks heading out that i can send the money with, what i forgot to mention is that the deal comes with a shirt saying

I believe his home is in Ventura, but he is in SD for school. I need to break free of the pbb. :shaking:
mobil1syn 01-25-2008, 11:22 PM im pretty sure id have a better chance at kickin a meth habit than the pbb

Chris 01-31-2008, 02:30 PM Two more days...
RedBullJeep 01-31-2008, 10:31 PM Miguelito...we are leaving Friday afternoon and coming back Sat night. We'll be taking the toterhome and trailer so we can take you and you'll have a bed to sleep in Fri night after partying at the FU2 grand opening. If you can spare the time, and are in San Diego, we've got ya covered. I know it's last minute but PM me if you can make it.
Beat95YJ 01-31-2008, 10:41 PM He and I spoke and I believe he is working Dustin.

Frank,
Todd has to do NOTHING to redeem his rep. For you or anyone else. People stand on their own merit. And Todd has credit to burn for several more lifetimes.
Obviously this one hit close to home for you, but you might want to pick a different huckleberry ;)
Beat95YJ 02-02-2008, 10:09 AM This did hit a nerve, and the number of phone calls I have gotten away from Pirate tells me that several have read this thread without posting.
The main issue I have is that if you don't know a persons personal circumstances you cannot bash them for their decisions.
We as recreational (and professional) off roaders need to support each other and unite against the people that want to restrict our access.
There have been several posts in the various threads on this subject that have bashed members of the community as a whole. In this thread they picked a person to unite against and bash. In my book this is unacceptable.
This kid is wheeling JV in his stockish TJ with 33's and running many of the trails. Over the holidays he was trying to sell his existing tires in the hope he could get some 35's.
Is he really the guy we want to scare away from the sport? Or is he the guy we want to bring in and educate regarding land use, responsible 4 wheeling, etc?
I think motivating him to attend could have been handled much better.
JeepRecoveryTeam 02-02-2008, 12:34 PM I think motivating him to attend could have been handled much better.
That maybe so. The problem is, is there is only a handful of people doing ANY motivating. If you don't like the methods... then do something better. I'm not calling you out personally Frank, and I don't think Todd was being 'personal' either. It's definitely a shotgun approach, but it's better than what 99% of the wheeling population is putting forth.
I jumped his ass because I saw his reply as "I don't really care or want to go out there and I'd rather have somebody else go out and do the work".
If he had replied with that he simply could not make it because of other commitments, or better yet not replied at all because he knew that he could not be there,I would have no problem with that.
Now, as far as the turnout, it was outstanding.A very strong contingency of Benders along with Point Mugu,On The Rocks and other individuals along with Red Bull and Johnson Motorsports made for a very strong showing of the OHV community.

Thanks for your generous advice on how we should have done better. Bout all I can say at this time is a sincere thank you to all the same old people that have always been there in support of our sport. A sport that I am sad to say is destined go on its ass without enthusiastic support from everyone.

Glad to see you are learning.
Take the crap that has happened and learn from it. If you do, the next cleanup will be even more successful. If you don't, you will be bitching at "everyone else" and unfortunately, the main problem won't be them.
How many people actually showed up? Thanks to everyone that did!!! Hopefully the next time I can make it out.

It doesn't make a difference if you ask nice or call people out, the same people will still show up and the same group of wannabees will sit on the sidelines and talk about how they could do it better.

Well there you go. Why even try then?
Something like 70ish people showed up right?
You look at the Calico cleanup alst year? IIRC they had over 200 people show up.
What is the difference? Why did more people show up to that cleanup than the SC cleanup?
JRT you guys CAN make a difference in attendance. Attitude is everything. But if you won't learn from the previous cleanups successes and detractions. It will always be the same old core group of people.

Why are you talking about what we CAN do. We already HAVE done much more. And when you personally do your thing for 5 years straight, and have dealt with and overcome all of the barriers that we have, for that kind of longevity, I'll be happy to listen to your secrets of success.

It's simple, perks and location.
Everyone going to Calico knew that they would spend a few hours picking trash, then get to wheel the rest of the weekend and maybe win some cool shit at the raffle, all of this just a couple hours from L.A. Couldn't get a better recipie for a cleanup than that.
Surprise cleanup was an hour drive from the middle of nowhere, no wheeling to be had, and obviously no prizes for showing up, but a lot did.

My thoughts exactly. To many people, Calico is a wheeling weekend with a little trash pickup time mixed in. I had the time and $$ to make one or the other, but not both. I chose the Surprise cleanup because I knew that there would be plenty of people at Calico to go wheeling. Not that I have anything against those people. I'm glad that they do show up, but the wheeling, raffle, etc is the obvious difference maker in attendance. I was sorry to hear that the poker run was cancelled by the BLM this year though. :(

Dude, nobody said you were not doing your part or that a good job has not been done. Your work is appreciated.
But, if you really think that there is no more room for improvement and the cleanups are as good as they are going to get... Then damn, enjoy them for what they are. Don't berate someone that might be able to make it. Cause it aint gonna do any good anyway..

Thats probably a lot of it. No argument there. And again, thanks to all that did show up. All I am saying is that there is always some way to make things better. Perhaps hit up Toyota to see if the trail team will show up and donate some camelbacks or trashbags. I mean anything. Heck, the mountain bike club's of the areas might be a good source for help as well. I donno..
I do not know for a fact what has been done exactly or what is left. But there is always something else to be done.
Even if it is just simply being polite instead of hammering on someone who could have made it to the cleanup but was unsure if they were able to or not.

I didn't like having to go where we did to get peoples attention, but if you look back through the threads about this cleanup you'll see that nobody gave a shit till we started pissing people off and shaming them for apathy. It's a real dissapointment that has to be done, looks like the 'me' decade didn't stop at the 80s.
Jason M 02-11-2008, 02:56 PM The "Me" decade really is going full swing, that is a fact..
Hope everyone makes the next cleanup better..
