I just got done installing 6*shims and it put me 1* above the ds angle.
So I started thinking what if I made a 1/8" or 1/4" plate to put under the tranny mount to raise the t-case output slightly?Hopefully putting me about 1*under.....anyone done something like this?
I started out with 8* shims and they were way too much so this is my second set of shims and I'm getting tired of messing with returning them and paying shipping and such.....not to mention the time and energy involved dropping the axle to re-shim.
Another idea I had was to take a flap wheel and lightly "machine" the shims down to about 4*???They are steel shims.....
what do ya think?

I wouldn't imagine 1/4" will do much to cause any issues, so I'd say go for it. I'd see the main concern to be linkage issues, but 1/4"...doubt it.

it wont matter, and you wont notice a difference. i run mine at about + 5* with no problems.

I still get vibes under hard acceleration....I said fawk it and ordered smaller shims.I just wanna be done with this stupid shit so I don't want to fawk with shimming the case only to have it not be enough.
How in the hell are you running 5* and not getting bad vibes?
I have a set of rubiconexpress steel 6* shims with 3/8 center pins for sale $20...pm me.

I'm running 4* shims and no vibs with a SYE installed. XJ's do have a vibration under hard accel from the factory you might be chasing a normal condition.

im thinking that if your dealing with 1* difference youve got a different problem to start chasing. instead of "llifting" the output to increase your d/s angle why dont you fix what ever it is that you trying to make a bandaid for.

also try getting a different slipe yoke. i believe one off a yj is a little longer and has more range of motion.
If you spend some time doing the following mods you will fix your problem and make your rig more capable too.
Lift the case as much as possible for ground clearance and build a new crossmember to take advantage of it. You can also redrill the hole in the trans mounting plate to clock the transfercase higher. Then you can run a nice flat skid plate too.
You might still need to change the shims to either a 4 or 5 degree shims.
If you run a properly built traction bar mounted close to the center that uses a shackle on the front end of it a 0 to 1 degree difference lower then the driveshaft angle is fine. The traction bar will stop the pinion from rotating up causing vibrations, wheel hop won't be an issue, flex will stay the same and your springs will last longer.
