I was heading out there Saturday morning anyway, maybe I'll see ya there. I'll be in the late model Ram.

At least I'll know someone else might actually be out there! Place has been fairly quiet lately.

It might be but its so close its hard not go there when you only have a few hours to spend powering all 4 wheels. Besides, no to worry about like at Folsom!

That's it exactly. Hmmmm, gotta be home by 1pm or so. Con's out. Fordyce is out. Jergens, mabe but might be closed now due to the rain. So, I can go to PC and get muddy or stay home and work on my house... it's a no brainer.

Look for a couple of black YJ's on 38's. I'm sure we'll be easy to find. See ya there.

We're heading to Frank Raines to be
but in my defense we're a bunch of posers anyway, and it's my son's first trip with dad.

Been to Frank Raines twice. First time didn't do much, second time, found a fun hill to decend... hate it when the rear end starts coming off the ground when facing downhill!

Have not been there in a while, never really found a whole lot to do, but never really had the time to explore much either.

My truck is my daily driver, up to 110 miles each way to work, so I'll stick to OHV parks cuz I can't afford to parts.

What's Frank Rains? Where is it? Never heard of that one before.

Frank Raines is a county run OHV park. It is off I-5 at Patterson. Take the Del Puerto Canyon Rd exit, head West for 17 miles and the park is on the right. Watch out for free ranging cows on the way in! Its on the back side of Mt. Hamilton in San Jose for reference.

Much bigger than PC, but 1/3 the size of Hollisters 4x4 area.

No maps, no signs, no anything. Some trails just end or are washed out and you have to turn around. There are mostly easy trails, but several hill climbs, a handful of mud holes and a creekbed that has moderately sized rocks most of the way, then they get huge. Almost Sluice like from the pics I have seen. Only seen one set of Jeeps head that far, but don't know where the creek goes.

May have some water in it with the recent rains, but shouldn't be anything major. Have to cross the creek to get to the other half of the park.

I did not realize PC was so small, never been there. Is it worth a day trip?

No one seems to know the answer to that question. Sounds like an expedition needs to be planned. I'll try this weekend to find the answer, if you don't hear from me on Monday send a search party. I'm more concerned about venturing onto private property.

PC in my opinion is NOT worth the trip from the bay area. If your into dirtbikes, especially moto-x, then hell yes. But 4x4 area is really a joke. Like I said, it's in my backyard and when we only have a 1/2 day, it's better than watching TV. Ya know?

Thanks for the info on Franks... If I'm ever in the area...

I almost hit a damn cow coming around a near blind corner heading to FR. Entire herd was between the road and the hillside. Usually it is OK though.

As for worth it for a day trip to PC, depends on what you want to do. The place is known for its mud, when its there. Mostly graded dirt roads with several big water holes. Lots of gulleys to climb (or at least attempt when wet) and a small obstacle course. A few good trenches to run the length of.

There is a frame twister that is much harder than the one at Hollister (at least the rocks are the end are harder), a fairly easy rock garden behind the 4 "hill climb obstacles" that include a stair step and hill w/ 12-14" ledge. There is a new rock pile that is 30-40yds long. By no means the mini-con at HH, but fairly challenging.

The place is great when its wet becuase unlike FR or HH, its fairly flat and you can go all out wihtout sliding of the side of a hill.

Basically, I can spend 2-3 hours out there by myself and run everything at least twice. Hooking up with someone to BS and such can make it last longer though. There tends to be a ton of newbies out there and others that have no clue. Fun as hell to watch

In the back on the way to the rear gate, there is a good RTI ramp. Not sure of the angle, but it's fairly steep. Someone dragged it out onto the road a few weeks ago so now its out of the grass and away from the hole at the base.

Hey Loppy, how do you get to PC?
I need to test some recent modification, and the new cutting brakes. in fact I was gonna try to find it today, but the job site is too busy today.

Mark -

I was going to try to hook up with you and Dave Blue (he is the one that contacted me about the trip) down there on Sat, but other things came up. Maybe next time. Besides, 5 hours roundtrip plus trail time is going a bit over the time I have available this weekend.

Jeff: Super Easy dude. Dont use those directions though, that takes you downtown, unecessary. You're in Roseville, so just hit Hazel south and take it to 50 (you'll pass right by my house )get on 50 towards Tahoe. The third exit will be Prarie City. Head South (right) and take that little road till it T's into white rock. Go Right. About a mile later you'll see the gate on the left. Super easy. Come AWN out. I'd guess we'll be out there around 9ish or so.

Mark: Hell yeah, wish I was going down there. I know Hollister kicks it over PC. But we only have a few hours. If we went down there, we'd be able to spin a donut in the staging area and have to head home
Next time bruddah!

Pavement: See ya out there.

Gary: I'd be great to see you again. Come AWWNNN up! Me, Keith, RysYJ, Fullsize I think, a dude Rich that lives by me and a few others are going I think. I'd guess about 9ish is when we'd finally get our hungover butt's out there. We have an RPS meeting tonight. so....

Loppy,

wouldn't it be the second exit (not including Aerojet, which is kind of blended into the Hazel on ramp).

You don't want to send him to Scott Road. Also, Loppy, have you tried the little obsticle course they have there? Good practice for the beginner or trying out new mods ****attn: H8Monday****

It's ok Keith! I know you have to put others down to feel bigger. Ya know they have meds for that now!

Nope not yet Jeff. It will be next year before she sees any moto. Maybe some work this winter. But I achieved my plan which was to get her on wheels and in the garage. Not bad for a rookie fabricator.

I'll be at hollister with another SA tacoma (norcalvp on here) on Saturday. There will also be a few other "regular" tacomas (some stock, some not).

This is my first run since the SAS and I'll probably be playing on mini-con all day taking a gazillion pictures.
