: AK flats, or Nodak?
CMF and I are trying to decide if we want to do go with flats and bend them ourselves, or just buy NoDak receivers.
His best price for the area so far is $25 per receiver for the transfer and b/g check.
That puts it @ $80 per receiver.
So - is it worth it to save the time and hassle or should we buy flats, borrow Aloha's jig, then the cost to ship the jig back out? I'm guessing we'll be into the flats for under $20 ea. all things considered.
Thoughts?

aloharover 01-24-2008, 12:06 PM Sounds like 2 people at least. How many flats per person?
I think even with my sky high prices you would still be ahead of the game doing it with flats money wise.
Nodaks will be easier and quicker to use. They really are almost plug and play. Might need to do a little filing on the mag well. But thats been it so far for me

I am in the same situation. Although, I can have the transfer done for $10. There are 3 of us that need some receivers and we were considering buying a jig. If I had done it before, I would probably just do the flats, but I figure I will screw a couple up since I have no experience bending them.

I've got 2, I can't remember if CMF has one or 2 himself.
I realize that flats are - on a pure cost basis - cheaper any way you slice it.
For my 2 AK's, the cost difference is approx. $120 between buying flats and NoDak's. What I am trying to judge is if my time and effort is better served to just spend the money.
I guess the other thought is to get one NoDak and build my first one that way, and just hold off and build the second one later. In that scenerio - I'd say it is definately worth $60 cost differential to buy the one NoDak and build my first one and be done with it - then I can get all custom and cheap on the second build.
My biggest hangup right now is that I *might* need to sell the completed rifle sometime down the road for whatever reason and have not gotten a straight answer on whether I will be able to if I use a flat.
If someone will confirm or deny that I will be able to sell one of these rifles later on, if I need to, without numbers, then I'm all for bending both of mine.
Yes, I am aware that I cannot manufacture weapons with the INTENT to sell them, but I do not want to lock the door on myself either.
Gozuki 01-24-2008, 02:16 PM You CANNOT sell a home bent receiver to ANYONE, EVER. (without a FFL to manufacture)
I know they can be transferred due to death of the builder, but can they be transferred to children before the builder's death?

Yes
You
Can.
You cannot make it with the intention of selling it. And when you do sell it it must have a serial and the place it was built engraved in it.

I've done both flats and NoDak builds. The DCI recievers are really nice, even the economy receivers. It's nice to not have to deal with FFL transfers though with flats.

Yeah, $55 each...
but what's the FFL you are having them shipped TO gonna charge you? That's the variable ;)
$20 each. I thought you were saying they were wanting $80 + transfer.
