hmm, I did the same thing :flipoff2:

Seriously 4Bangler, Concider that of the 9 years the Scout II was offered, or the 15 (or so) years that Scouts had D20's, only 1-1/2" years (or so) were offered with the D300, that makes them "resonably" rare... and factor that many of those have got to the big scrap-yard in the sky.....

that answer your question? They are still out there, you just have to look....

IIRC, they made about 11,000 Scouts in 1980.

Some of those got Dana 20s, too (it was less than a year of production, Mark.. not 1.5!)

So.. you tell me. How hard is it to find a part that was used on a second-tier manufacturer's expensive 4x4 SUV back before 4x4 SUVs were all the rage - and only on ONE year, which was the lowest production year.. and then consider how badly they rust out.. and all the J**pers that want those Dana 300s..

you sound a little bitter... I guess you haven't found your 300 yet:( :flipoff2: :D

FYI: I hauled home a late 79 that had a 300 in it.... original or not I don't know, it was a Canadian unit

Hmmm There is that Dana 300 sitting under my work bench that i tried to sell at the swap meet. I guess no one wanted a 36,000 original mile Dana 300, or did not want to pay what it was worth.

Tom dont forget all the 1980 were galvanized so they do last alot longer than the 72-78 1/2's did. Also dont forget about all the Dana 300s that are in street only daily drivers.

I had 3 of them about two months ago. Ones in my diesel that will get pulled and returned to its rightfull place in a Trail rig, the other is under my work bench.

Back east is your best bet at finding one, all the rigs rust away there with the use of salt on the road.

There's a guy I know in central MT that's hoarding a bunch of Dana 300s - because they're quieter in 4-hi than a Dana 20.

Didn't know/doesn't care about the 2.62:1 low range.. it's just quieter in high.

Bitter? Nahh.. they're overpriced and not worth the $$$.

Besides.. I'd just break it. :D

One of these days I'll finish putting Bronco gears into the Dana 20 I have torn apart.. 2.46:1 for free.. almost as good as the 2.62:1 D300, but a LOT cheaper..

I'm trying to talk one of my buddies into running a Scout Dana 300 in his CJ-5, he just bought a $$$ adapter for his SM465 to Dana 20 and is messing around with finding Bronco gears and all that shiznit, I told him Scout 300 and he said he'd have better luck finding Jimmy Hoffa. Called on two Scouts in the paper, as luck would have it both were 1980's, both manual trans, one told us over the phone that the trans and t-case were gone already, the other didn't know what case it had so we drove 50 miles one way to find out it was a friggin 2WD! Just trying to keep him from giving up, that guy in Michigan is like a half hour from my work, I'll give him a try.

Oh God! This smells of chit chat. Anyway, I have a t19 wide and a d300 I'm thinking of parting with. It was going into the NEXT project, but the tax man and reality are telling me not to do ANOTHER project.

As much as you have! Maybe more.......I suppose you want the Bullgear for the manual tranny too? I think they're going for something like $500??? to the B.B. crowd, but of course I'd set you up for less than that. I need to think a bit more as to whether or not I'm gonna give it up. If I decide to, then I'll give you first dibs. Stay in touch. Do you already have a wide?

Yes, I already have the wide box. Go ahead and sell it on the BB to make some bucks. I'll keep my eye out for a $100 box like the $300 box you gave OS for Free, or something like that. :D

It was'nt exactly free........I had the op. to get a '80 parts rig for $300 and nowhere to put it while I stripped it. OS let me use a fine piece of dirt for awhile and helped me strip it. I already had a 300, and I offered this new one to him as a bargaining tool so he would let me use the space. Plus, he's helped me out numerous times in the past so this was payback time. I would love to give it to you for a $100  :flipoff2:
I'll rent it to you....:D

hey, I got my D300 for $100... could have been less...

Buy '80 Diesel Traveler for $500.... drive it home. Yank D300 and swap with D20 in my truck.... sell traveler to brother for $400...

Probably could have sold it for the full $500 or more, but I sold to to my brother (so I could still use it :D), but he wouldn't go for the full $500 knowing that I snaged the 300...

Course, its been at my place since... just FINALLY took it over to his place, now that he's away in Europe :D

Might buy it back though.... after some work (cracked pistons) and clean up... it would be a killer DD.... rides nice and is kind of fun to drive... not to mention 25+ MPG potentioal....
