('96 XJ 4.0,AW4)In December '06 i went to the ToysforTots run at Interlake here in Indiana. I wheeled for most of the day without issue but later in the afternoon we stopped for lunch and let the jeeps sit for about half an hour. when i started it up, it ran fine while in park but as soon as i moved the shifter into any position it defaulted to trans in 2nd gear with the TC locked and the light for cruise control on the steering wheel lights up even though i have the CC vacuum disconnected. Any time i stopped on the way home i had to put the trans in neutral, rev the engine to around 3750 and throw into gear while stomping on the gas just to take off. About 5 miles down the road i just happened to turn the heat off and the trans upshifted into third, unlocked the torqe converter and began shifting fine. If the climate control is in any position other than off, the CC light in the steering wheel lights up, the trans shifts to 2nd gear and the TC locks. I just shrugged it off and drove until March (when i rolled it) without any heat or AC. I havent really cared about it until recently when i was thinking about adding one of Brett's AWShifting kits. I havent torn the dash apart yet but i was hoping one of you guys might know how the TCU, climate control and cruise control are all tied together. Any ideas? (sorry for the novel)

My 92 AW4 has twice in the past, lost first gear. Reverse was fine, second was TQ unlocked 3rd 4th and TQ locked was fine. Turned it off, restarted it, still happened. Drove it home like that, let it sit for a few hours and it was fine. Happened again recently after a snow wheeling run, didn't notice it until I shifted out of 4low. Seems to happen when the tranny gets real warm and runs for awhile. Need to get my transmission cooling setup installed to hopefully fix that problem.

reverse also works but the TC is still locked. and its not an overheating issue because it even happens right at startup...
