Solon Fire Control in Rancho Cordova, CA
$3.20 for the CO2. ($.32 per pound),
$8.56 for refill (fill) service,
$.24 tax...

$12.00 total for the 10 pound tank and it took less than 10 minutes. They are located in a brand new building on Luyung dr.

South on Sunrise from Hwy 50,
Left on White Rock Road,
Through the stop sign, it's the next right.
Building is on the right about 1/4 mile after you turn on Luyung dr...

They sell and service Fire and Safety equipment. Nice new building, great service.

Correction to the above. 'Big J' found us both a new place. Thanks for the tip Jeremy. It's close to where I work and there's an excellent burrito place right there on Sunrise too. We stopped on the way back. Eddie's makes one of the best burritos you will find anywhere. Going south on Sunrise from 50, it's on the left just past the Enterprise car sales place. Yum!!!

Is that about the going rate around Cali for having your bottles filled? How many tires do you guys fill with a 10 lbs bottle? I know it depends on the size of the tire and how much psi you put back in it, but I was just wondering if my 20 pounder will last me a season of wheeling filling up my 37x12.50x15 MTRS from 8 psi to 25 psi or so.

I went to a Fire safety place in Vegas to fill my 10 lb bottle, the wanted like $40, I got it filled at a welding shop for less than $15 but they had to send it to their plant which was a day turn around.

Where do you go to get yours filled? $2 is $2, almost another gallon of 87 octane gas if you're lucky. :D

Best deal I found is at a welding shop called Desert Industrial. It's on the north side of town, right off I15. $10 to refill your 20lb tank, and they do it right there for you.

In Santa Clara, I go to this place: http://www.carbonicservice.com/

$12 for my 10 pound tank, they fill while I wait, friendly too.

The only take cash, check or a charge account, and they are a M-F 9-5 kinda place.

I think that is where I ended up going, I went to thier smaller store near the Orleans which had to send it up the to bigger store to have filled.

this may be a dumb question, but why doesn't anyone use nitrogen ??

and how long do the 10# & 20# bottles last ?

YME
06-17-2005, 08:53 PM
Because CO2 is stored in a liquid form while nitrogen is stored in a gaseous form. That measn that you can much more CO2 in a tank than N2 in the same sized tank.

anywhere from a 10# bottle up to a 20# bottle is $10.73 at Select Drink in St. Louis. They are located by the airport on Lindbergh. Filled while you wait, usually 5 minutes.

With a 35" tire you can air up and down 3-4 times, assuming you go down to about 15 psi. Also good for running air tools on the trail!

Has anyone tryed using a regulator off a torch on a co2 tank? If so did it work ok?

I have seen this. Guy's tank fell over and the reg broke off and he lost all his CO2. Just buy the right stuff. I have one left that is a Polished Aluminum tank. It's 50 bucks more but worth it if you want the badass look.

Why co2 & not hydrogen the guy at the welding supply said co2-800 lb hyd-2400 lb. hyd is a dry gas where co2 is wet plus hyd is cheper

CO2 compresses into liquid form, with only a bit of gas over it, and generally only at ~800psi, but has WAY more potential energy than H2, even though the H2 stores at a higher pressure. As you use the CO2, you vent the small bubble of gas that's at 800psi, and the surface of the liquid transitions to gas, replenishing what you take away...

Long story short, you'll get WAY more tire fills out of a 10lb C02 bottle than a 10lb H2 canister, and be a lot less likely to :nuke: yourself in the process -- CO2 doesn't burn, and H2, well -- remember the Hindenberg?
