I just purchased a frame w/engine that I was told was a scout. I just purchased it for the transfer case. I have been trying to find out what engine and get an idea of what year it is. The engine is marked with the following. It is an inline-6

by the last four numbers of the block casting it is an AMC 258 http://theserviceadvisor.com/part/reman/internationalbesttsaamc_258lb_1.html by what it says in the link it is probably a 1975-80 because the earlier 258 had a different casting number...

if it is definately a scout and it is a gas engine it is an AMC 258
