All- I'm planning on fixing a broken shock pin tomorrow morning, and have already bought the replacement. I'm a little confused though- it was my understanding that the pin is pressed in place, but the new one is threaded on both sides of the shoulder. Does anyone know if the factory pin is threaded ('83 fj40)? If it is, should I just drill it out and try to tap it, or should I try to spot weld a nut on it and use a wrench and hammer?

does the original pin have a place for a wrench to fit to unscrew it? If so unscrew it and screw the new one in. You may have bougth a universal pin, in that case you may have to weld it.
