: 124:1 or 235:1 crawl ratio
retardatwork 01-28-2008, 03:53 PM what do you guys think:D
It feels good to be able to ask a question like this now that its done.
cj7
SOA
full width
35's
258 fuel injected
T19 5:1
diffs 4.56
atlas 4 speed 5.3 or 10:1
The 5.3 4 speed is 5.44/2.72/2.0/and 1.1
The 10.34 4 spped is 10.34/3.8/2.72/ and 1.1
I live in Cali so it sees a lot of different terrain each year.

10.34
I have a similar set up to u my first gear is 106:1 and it crawls up walls in low range by itself. I don;t have a stock low range gear of 2.72:1 anymore (4:1 kit in my D300) which is nice for bombing around sand and trails. The other kits 5.44 and 2.0 seem like odd gear ratios that u really don;t need.
jpfrk2001 01-28-2008, 05:59 PM x2 on 10.34
Marc Daniels 01-28-2008, 08:35 PM x3 10.34 would be comparable to mine, running a 4.1 kluneV in front of my stock case and love it. Lots of gear choices for different obstacles
jeeper8650 01-28-2008, 09:51 PM X4 on the 10.34 I have that atlas in my TJ on 40's and I love it. I always have a gear for every situation.
retardatwork 01-29-2008, 08:53 AM wow I thought for sure you guys would be laughing at a 235:1 crawl ratio. That 10.34:1, is it equivalent to two marlin crawler boxes ?
Jeeper8650 how often do you use first gear and what are your ratios. Do your brakes hold you at all in 1st gear?
BROKE_ASS_YJ 01-29-2008, 08:57 AM I tell you right now it will drive through the brakes. We are running 4 to 1 in the t case 5.38 in the axles and in first gear with both sticks in low it almost drives through the brakes.
The Black Sheep 01-29-2008, 09:23 AM With a 6.32:1 first gear, 4:1 T-case, and 4.10 gears before i did my brake upgrades i used to be able to stand on the brakes and it would still drive through them. Now it just twists the chassis ALOT. Basically you are not gonna stall it...period. :flipoff2: Its not a big deal i guess unless u are running an auto. If u get a floor shifter it might be able to help u out with getting it into neutral faster if u need to brake. I just let off the gas or push the clutch/brake in when i want to go slower
retardatwork 01-29-2008, 10:45 AM Black sheep your at 106:1 imagine 230:1:laughing:
I'm watching some marlin crawler vids on u tube and some of them are 220:1 and it doesn't look as slow as I would have thought. Those two boxes ratios are very different thats why I think I cant decide.

you have a similar setup to the other jeep with 40's but your crawl ratio is half. How do you like it as it stands right now?
jeeper8650 01-29-2008, 12:01 PM 5.13 in the axles, nv3550(so 4:1), and the atlas 4spd(10.34). I only use the 10.34 in 1st gear when do really technical sections where getting traction in not a problem but rolling is and I love it for the situations. I also find the 3.8 great for just about any other rockcrawling. Lastly the 2.72 works well for snow bashing and sand running. I am not sure about the brakes, I have never tried it. But I doubt any brake set up is going to hold back that kind of gear reduction, even my one ton setup.

Why would you be worried about stopping it in 1st low with a stick? Push in the clutch.
Travis..

I think its just about perfect for the driving style. I figured it up once and I think its at 86 to 1 or something like that. I drive it hard so I like the wheels speed, but when crawling is needed I think its great as well.
Marc Daniels 01-30-2008, 09:44 AM With the jeep in 230.1 low low gear, going up an incline with no foot on the gas peddle, and both feet on the brakes, the engine will not die, nor will the jeeps forward momentum, almost got me a few times when I didn't have the clutch pushed in all the way
retardatwork 01-30-2008, 04:39 PM how often do you use the 230:1 crawl ratio
retardatwork 01-31-2008, 11:17 AM from what I'm told the t19 should bolt up to the atlas 4spd. Does anyone know if that is by reusing the stock transfercase adapter. The 4spd is pretty long espeacialy if using the longshaft for the speedo. Does anyone know if smog requirements in cali call for a working speedometer. The long shaft 4spd is 17 inches and the short shaft is 15. A stock dana 300 is 12 inches. Does anyone know the length of a T5 dana 300 combo? It seems like my rear driveshaft will be really short if I run the long shaft 4spd.
Marc Daniels 01-31-2008, 12:41 PM Personally, I run it all the time on ledges, and the big rocks, worked great in disney. I try to let the gears do the work first. Low low works better when dry, regular trails and hillclimbs or mud, stock t-case 1st gear or 4.1 in second or 3rd gear.Marc
offroadjunkie 02-04-2008, 09:23 PM while you guys are worried about incredible crawl ratios im stuck with 38.6:1 with my tf999 being 2.74 with a stock dana 300 at 2.76 and 5.13s in the axles. :flipoff2:
retardatwork 02-04-2008, 10:39 PM I picked the 5:44 to 1. I hear all the reasons for the super low gearing but the other ratios just seem more suited to my build.
5.44= rubicon, hammers and hopefully moab for the first time this fall.
2.72=hollister
2.0= pismo sand dunes
10:1 seemed to low
and the next gear 3.8 seemed not low enough. Plus I have a friend with the exact setup except he has the
T18 and it crawled really well with the ATLAS II 5.4:1. It was really perfect timing to get to see it in person. I had to be realistic I just dont have the axles, wheel base and tires to run in massive rocks and climb huge ledges. If and when I get to that point I'm going the buggy route
