I am looking at buying a side by side. I don't have any experience with them besides riding in a friends Rhino. I am going to mainly be doing some off Roading in the mountains and some snow wheeling. Any input on the Rhino compared to the Prowler would be great. I know they are both excellent machines, but what are the pro's and con's. My wife and two big dogs will also be going with me. I am looking at the 2008 models.

I would go for the 2008 Rhino. The 2008 Prowler is a bit faster in stock form, but it is bigger and taller. Seat height is much higher as well - higher center of gravity.
Aftermarket parts for the Rhino's is off the charts too.

This is true it is unbelievable the amout of accessories available for these damn things. Oh and im not sure about the new prowlers, but the 08 rhinos have the sweet FI 700. I say Rhino for sure

Both are great sport /utility utv's and serve the same niche. Able to carry 4 people and gear.
The stock prowler is a little faster and comes with 14 inch rims stock. So its already geared for larger tires.
Nowdays finding parts for the Prowler, Ranger,RZR or Rhino is easy. You can find everything from Superchargers to soild billet long-travel suspensions.
The Arctic Cat may feel a little bigger and you do sit a little higher but it also has a 7 inch wider stance and is more stable in the corners.

the build quality, and chassis/suspension strengths are better in the rhino for sure. much more solid built machine than the prowler..

prowlers have the ghey rect tubing cage that is enough reason to go yamaha.

the prowlers have never taken off in the aftermarket like the other utv's. but they just announced a prowler 1000 a couple of days ago, that will be avalible nov or dec this year. msrp is 14k though.
look into the Kawi Tyrex i just helped a friend install a longtravel suspension on one of these and wow the frame is beefy and the power is way more than the rhino. the efi rhino is not that great, and aftermarket for the 08 rhino is very slow. i have a o6 rhino and an 08 polaris rzr and the Kawi is going to be my next utv very soon. yes its a couple of hundred pounds heavier, but the motor is very underestimated. add an intake filter and exhaust with some jetting and you will see some major hp improvement.
check out utvguide for a comparison. and rhinoforums.net,tyrexforums.net for more info.

aftermarket parts for rhino's are about 5x the price of off road trucks parts. even for identical parts. all those "rhino mafia" type of shops are out to buy a part for $20 and sell it to you for $120. i have a 07 prowler, and it does ok. it sucks balls in the sand (way underpowered), and overheats puking out coolant every ride. it rides smooth after i fabbed up some rear a-arms and put on fox coilovers, and changed the shock mounting position on the front arms. i have a $4000 toyota rock crawler that is funner and can go more places, plus it isn't financed. arctic cat sucks big fat balls when it comes to warranty issues too, and the dealerships are even worse. to sum it up, all of these side by sides are way overpriced when you look at how simple they are and how cheaply they're made. a well built side by side will cost $25,000 and up. only a crack smoking retard would want to spend that kind of coin on a golf cart.

or if you know how to bend tube you can make a cage. i made a cage for mine to make it a 4 seater, and it looks better and is stronger than any stock rhino cage. and i'm not saying prowlers are better than rhinos. they both are good in some ways and suck in others.

almost forgot about these things. prowlers are heaping piles of poo. mine sits awaiting repairs right now, needs a head gasket, tie rods, and some serious a-arm beef. yeah, i'm a little rough on it at times, but i didn't buy it to cruise the country club in my slacks. oh yeah, the front locker took a dirt nap too. underbuilt and overpriced junk. but fun to drive when they aren't broken.:D

I am sticking to my guns on this one. I have a good amount of expirence with both. The rhino is a much more solid platform. Its just my opinion though, and that of pretty much all other people that deal with UTV's heavily.
So to each his own.

I would definitely go with the prowler. I have one and my grandpa has a rhino so i have spent alot of time comparing them. the prowler is definitely better in stock form. sure you can make a rhino better than a prowler but you have to dump a bunch of money into it. the prowler also rides better and don't worry about the height the main weight is still low it is really hard to flip over i have only rolled mine twice and both times were on purpose. i have spent alot of time beating the crap out of my prowler jumping it in the dunes and takin it on the rocks and i haven't had any problems with it taking the abuse. So i would definitely buy the prowler if your looking for something ready "out of the box" because it comes with the aluminum wheels digital dash and all of the goodies that you pay extra for in the rhinos and the prowlers are cheaper.

The new Prowler 1000 XTZ (http://www.utvguide.net/arctic_cat_prowler_xtz1000.htm) looks interesting. I'll get a chance to try one out in two weeks. They are supposed to fly.

If it were me, I would go drive all of them in stock and modified form before you make any sort of decision. maybe one brands steering wheel doesnt work at al for you. maybe the layout sucks for you. Go test drive.

If it is just between the Rhino and Prowler I would say Rhino. We are one of those "mafia" type of shops who are able to mark our stuff up 200% and are making a frickin' killing LOL Joking aside, We are a Side By Side Shop and I feel qualified to speak on this subject. We go out and purchase one of the first units of any MFG who enters the SXS market. We had a Prowler from the very begining, as well as rhinos, RZR's, Rangers and Tyrex. The Prowler is by far the least impressive of all the units, and we had more mechanical and structural issues than any of the other units. The Rhino is the old stand by it is not the fastest but all in all it is a sound depedable choice with a lot of aftermarket options. We do have Prowler customers who are very happy with their modified units. The Kawi is another option, the motor is a strong platform and the chassis seems to be beefy. We have yet to have any issues with our kawi. The new 2009 Ranger has many changes which make it also a very appealing unit. seating for three in stock form is very popular. The Ranger is a little less sporty but it has some very nice features depending on the riding you plan on doing. Feel free to contact our shop is you have any other information you seek.

definately a rhino
the arctics are only good for around the acreage,
personally i like arctic cat put the front ends on all their utv/atvs are weaker then a wet piece of toilet paper! I dont own a prowler myself but i have a 2004 400 atv and the left side a arm has completly ripped from the frame.
Go with the Rhino you will be please
