H1 Wheels

I just picked up a set of H1 wheels, the 8 bolt design, for a really good price, 25 a wheel. My question is, Is a 39.5x15x16.5 to big for this wheel stock, or will it work for now? I plan on having them re-centered eventually, but I just need to know if thats to big cause if so I have to browse some other sizes.. thanks fellas.

I believe the 8 bolts were meant for bias ply only. That tire will work fine on the 12 bolt version of that wheel.

i see people use 8 bolts all the time on big rubber. you would think they are tougher since bias are heavyer.


i have military 36' radials on 8 bolts, and they are original :confused:

You cannot use radial tires with these wheels. They are not strong enough. They won't take the force from the tire pressure. These wheels are fitted with a standard 3/8" hole valve stem."

I bet there's some info inscribed on the rim itself about max inflation (my 2 piece 12 bolts and my 1 piece steelies say max inflation 50 lbs). I'm sure if you called Hutchinson or AM General they will tell you the same as Chucks's site. I don't think the military uses them anymore. With a general warning like this from the manufacturer, I'd stay away.

they will be fine. Many people run that size and bigger on bone stock 8 bolts. I run 38.5x14.5 tires on the 8 bolts and the width is good if thats what you are concerned about.

I was asking if the tire width is too big for the width of the rim. The 39.5x15.16.5 TSL is not a radial tire, so it will be fine for that matter. I just wanna know if the 15" wide tire is too much for the 8" wide rim.

and i never said i had civilian 8 bolts did i? those goodyear RT II's are radials on these rims. i dont understood how they are weaker, as radials are a lighter weaker tire themselves when compared to bias tire sidwall thickness and whatnot

I run 38.5x15x16.5 boggers on my 8lug hummer wheels recentered with cut magnesium runflats (keeping the beadlock feathure only) and have no problems-they function and look fine. You have a little more width to play with as you go taller: you would not want a 31" tall tire being 15 inches wide on a 8" wide wheel but the width difference is not so bad as you approach the 40" range....just think trigonometry and the angle of the sidewall.

Or... just realize that many have run that combo before and they are fine.

there were no civilian 8 bolts (as mentioned in my quote). You said you had 36" radials on 8 bolts so they are the same aren't they? And usually radials are a heavier tire (though with a weaker sidwall as you mentioned) and in most cases require more psi, that's why these were deemed unsafe by the factory. Good for you if you are using them and having fun.
