Talked to Moser today and they said they are making "alloy" axleshafts for dana 60 fronts. They are making alloy inner and outers with the option of 30 or 35 spline outers. They are $395 a pair for the inners and the same $395 for a pair of outers(kinda strange a pair of outers is just as much as the inners).I asked what "alloy" they were made from and they wouldn't say.So I asked how does their material compare to 4340 chromemoly and the response was " Oh, much stronger!" I said ok..." sounds good ..just curious what kind of warranty do they have?" Without hestitation the guy said " NONE!" makes you think twice about buying some..just thought I would pass on the info.:D

Much stronger than 4340, wonder how they managed that.

Guy I talked to yesterday told me they make it out of the "rear race material", and yes he did say there is no warranty for it if you are a rock crawler or swamp buggy just like the rear shaft have no warranty if you run it in a rock crawler, if you run it in a drag car they do give a limited warranty.

My rear dutchman axles are life time warranty, but I will call on Monday and see if they make a distinction between rock crawlers and drag cars.

I also understand that superior axles is working on an alloy shaft. I forgot who told me they knew an RCAA team that was proto typing them this year.

I called them and asked a few questions myself. I have had bad experiances with ther products in the past. They still only run their hardening prosess to the end of the shaft not all the way up the ears like warn does. In their 44 shafts this creates a weak link and I personnaly know of a slammy running the four cylinder and 32 inch tiers that managed to break them.(We broke 3 out of 4 in the exact same spot on are UROC rig). They would not tell me the material they made them out of either. I would stay away from Moser they do not stand behind thier product. Your money could be spent in better ways like gun barrel drilling the stock shaft to make it stronger...... This is just my 2 cents worth.

I thought that we had established that gun barrel drilling will not make a shaft stronger - it can lessen the weight with a fairly negligable impact on strength.

As for the material I would bet its 1541 or a sort there of - still stronger than stock. For a comparison between that and 4340 I would say it is most likely to have less of a shock load capacity, but will have a greater fatigue life (assuming you don't shock it beyond its yeild point;) )
