Yah I searched and even read some :flipoff2: But have yet to see anywhere written in stone; which of the two channels are which when drilling and tapping the steering box... Which side goes to left and which side goes right, end cap or the cap with the lash adjustment????

I know you can hook everything up and see but I would rather know when going in so I can figure the line length out before hand and get things routed without being covered in fluid from switching sh$t around, thanks

It depends on which box you're using, which way the pitman arm swings, and stuff like that. Bottom line, you have to figure it out from which side of the piston in the box is pressurized when you turn which way, then hook it to the appropriate side of the ram. There's no one answer that fits on a regular basis, and that's why you can't do a search to find it.

I forgot I was on the general board, I have a 91 XJ with the saginaw box, I may end up just having to route the lines and just swap them if neccessary, but any ideas would be great, thanks

with that box and your setup the port on top should go to the passenger side and the port on the end should go to the drivers side of the ram.
But this isn't set in stone. If it starts to bind when you try to steer then reverse the lines. Simple as that.

Thanks - that was exactly what I was looking for, also for making internal bumpstops for a tierod cylinder I have heard of folks using a chunk of pipe to slip over the rod so the pistom bottoms out to limit the stroke. Any other ideas or any tricks in cracking it open... I need to limit the stoke on the rod side of the cylinder (extension travel) , thanks again...

A piece of pipe or large washers will work fine, but unless you have more than 3/4" of extra travel i wouldn't worry about it. Just dont hold the steering all the way after you feel it bottom out.

Only needed ~6" out of and 8" ram (free); so I made a piece of pipe that has a sleave and a set screw in it to hold it at the base of the rod - worked out great, the travel is set so the steering stops are ~1/16th" from the inner c's, thanks again,

Hook it all up but don't bolt the ram in place. Start it and turn the wheel and see if the ram goes the direction you want. What Scott said is true about what side of the box has pressure so just think about it and hook it up and you will probably be right. If the ram is not bolted in then it doesn't matter if you are wrong. I always leave the ram unbolted for the first few cycles because that way it gets all the air out because not all setups use all the stroke but if you leave it unbolted it will. When you do start it move the wheel just a little and then shut it off and refill. Do this a few times.

Pressure on the top of the box, rig goes left. Pressure at the front of the box, rig goes right.
