so you are talking about the LICENSE PLATE LIGHT?. i would imagine the wires have to go through the tailgate hinge area right?

Pull the plate and trace the wires. On YJ, you can follow them into the wheel well and up into the tub.
Do you have a Haynes or Chilton manual? That would probably help.

I am guessing there's a reason for that. Still trying to figure out what a lightplate is.

it's in the link. if that worked. since the rockhard 4x4 rear bumper/tire carrier mounts the hight lift jack in a way which blocks my license plate, i had to move it to the center of my spare tire. in doing that, there was no like on the plate, which is illegal, so i got the "plate lite" to fix my problem
