: Preparation "KOH"
ToolBox Guy 02-02-2008, 07:12 PM NO this is not a thread about hemrhoid medicine!
I have been watching the preparation thread for the KOH race in "General4x4" and decided to put one up in here so that the F-Toys that are racing can show off what they are doing to get ready.
I am totally behind schedule, my rig is torn down and I found out today that I may have ordered the wrong R&P set for the front third member.
Here are a few pics. of the rig, some parts, and the difference between the pinion diameter of the stock high pinion gear set and the one I recieved.
benttoy 02-02-2008, 08:19 PM If you want help getting it together I can come out after work
ToolBox Guy 02-02-2008, 08:30 PM If you want help getting it together I can come out after work
Thanks for the offer, I am almost positive that I will take you up on that.
I need alot of help!
good deal brett. get to work!!! jon is starting the prep on my ftoy. mabey he can get some pics up.
the plans:
put back the bottom 2 leafs of the 5" TG packs to stiffen the suspension for all the woops
if i was really wanting to pimp it out for desert, i would try to stretch the wheel base a few inches...but i am not putting that much thought into it seeing as how i am still only 100hp, lol
horn, pass. window net, yellow rear facing light
put in the 2 others studs in the 6 knuckle studs (high speed desert is where i have broken all my studs in my stock knuckles)
load it up with C02, plugs, tools, water/food and jackets
take off the bilstien 5125's and replace with prototype race mono tube race shocks specifically made for this race by frank at eldebrock
air the krawlers up to 9psi
i wish i had some 15 wheels and 38's...this would be more of a forgiving ride.
charge radios and get helmets and firesuit
john and i will be splitting driving duties. he has never ran a hammer trail and in 1 day, we will do all of the them, hahahaha. alot of people take over a year to do all of them. like brett last year, he will have to learn fast, lol. neither of us will have a chance to pre run...
Napolian 02-02-2008, 10:12 PM I just found out that I've got a spot in the race. So it looks like I'll be running my f-toy at the KOH also.:p
ToolBox Guy 02-02-2008, 10:18 PM COOOL!
Rumor has it that there will now be 5 F-Toys battling it out.
MT4Runner 02-03-2008, 08:59 AM We'll be rooting for you guys!!!! Unleash hell on the dudes with linked rigs and extra cheater cylinders!!!
extra cheater cylinders!!!
Napolian 02-05-2008, 07:34 AM What do you guys think, Sticky 37" pro comps with 17" wheels or 39.5" irocks with 15" wheels? I love the way the stickys work but the irock is probably stronger and will give me more ground clearance?
Heywood 02-05-2008, 09:15 AM What do you guys think, Sticky 37" pro comps with 17" wheels or 39.5" irocks with 15" wheels? I love the way the stickys work but the irock is probably stronger and will give me more ground clearance?
If you can fit them, Id deffinatly run the 39.5s. From what I hear we are gonna be going DOWN alot of trails. I think we are gonna be bouncing over most of the stuff with momentum.
Maybe the only time in a comp when those big pos iroks will be an advantage over the stickys:D
But since Im competing against you, I think you should run some 33" all terains
Napolian 02-05-2008, 09:45 AM I running 108" wheelbase and I originally was running 39.5" irocks so I know they'll fit. I might have to put a leaf or two back in the pack.
ToolBox Guy 02-05-2008, 11:02 PM Front axle is ready for final assembly with 5:29 gears.
And the rear Elocked third member from Inchworm arrived yesterday. Forgot to take pics of that though, I'm sure everyone knows what one looks like anyways.
mtbrjon 02-06-2008, 06:08 AM Let us know how the Elocker works. I have had issues with mine engaging but we have it worked out now.
As soon as the TG front housing is available i'm going ARBs and TG housings front and rear.
You going full 5" packs front and rear for KOH?

Yeah, I had trouble with mine engaging at one time and found out that the solenoid had been hit so hard that it was out of alignment. In fact it was in last years KOH. I'm just going to run 4 inchers I'm used to my rig sitting low, I think I would be uncomfortable with it any higher than with new 4 inchers.

Are there any early photo's of the front housing yet? I'm hoping to do the same thing when the time comes :)
azyota 02-06-2008, 04:20 PM Damn I wish I was doing this...
Looking good!
Napolian 02-07-2008, 10:02 AM Brett what shocks are you running in the race. Are you sticking with the bilstiens or are you changing them. I've been running the 5125s but I'm not sure they'll hold in this race. They work for crawling but I don't know about the high speeds.

If you can I'd try and get some BBCShocks. I love mine for slow speed and high speed. Hauling ass at the hammers is one of the funnest parts of every trip there and the BBCS's love it.

I thought it was limited entry's and it was full a while ago. Since I missed it, I'm now going to Las Cruces for the Chile Challenge. If I could get into KOH, I think I would be changing some plans!

I didn't get a spot Craig Thompson (yellow hobo) did I'm copilot in my f-toy because he didn't want to destroy his before the werock season. So we're running mine. I'm just stoked for the opportunity to rum the race.
ToolBox Guy 02-14-2008, 12:16 AM OK, rig is back on its feet and will be driving by the end of the week. I have my rear driveline to pick up from High Desert Driveline and then mechanically we should be ready. I have one major issue to over come, can you spot it in the second pic?
ToolBox Guy 02-14-2008, 12:18 AM I did step into a new set of drive flanges though!

Rears turned out a little bit longer huh... Looks like a little fab work is necessary. You should be able to handle that right? :D
With the messed up shackle angle, how much taller did the rig end up with those springs?
I currently have the same spring setup that you used to have and was thinking of changing to some new ones. Just haven't fully decided the route I want to go.

:laughing::laughing::laughing:Yes that would be prefect!!!
ToolBox Guy 02-20-2008, 09:54 AM Ok now that I'm done crying, for being teased about my driving suit I will show some pics of the rig.:laughing:
I believe we are all done, we will be getting the digital graphic side panels back tonight from Impact Signs in Victorville. Bruce at High Desert Driveline came through on Monday with the last of the super sweet drivelines, and except for some minor mistakes on my part, the Inchworm Gear diffs are killer. Talk about service!
We also swung by PROCOMM Race Radios yesterday and got hooked up on a nice Vertex race radio and hand held unit so we can communicate to our pit guys.
The rig is going out in the morning, so keep an eye on the Pirate coverage, we will be out there in the morning trying to promote Tool Chassis, F-Toys, and all of the people that helped out.
MT4Runner 02-20-2008, 10:15 AM DAYUM, Brett!!! I love the way you've closed in the back end. That thing looks gorgeous!!!!
Who built the rear shackles for you?
:flipoff2:
