So I went to 4wheel parts and asked them if they had any old tires I could use for rolling my prject around the shop
guy says "sure check out back, just don't ruin the pile"

so I head out back and start snooping and I find three tires on the bottom of the pile and they look brand new!

I start wippin of tires and low end behold a set of 3 almost new swampers!

then I flip one over and see a big old hole cut in the side <IMG SRC="smilies/crybaby2.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/crybaby2.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/crybaby2.gif" border="0">

what gives?

a tech tells me that they are warrentee returns and they have to cut out the serial number

I took one anyways cuz it looks cool and I figure I can make something cool out of a practically new tire

then I get back to the shop and my friend says that some retread place can fix holes that big

yeah I doubt it

anyone know for sure?

If so I'll try and get the others

otherwise I'll make a really cool tire swing

Make a coffee table out of it. get piece of glass cut and put it on top maybe a cheap black rim to mount the tire on.

Fred,
The hole can definately be fixed. I have a friend who does tire repair and vulcanizes tires..He can fix tire injuries up to 10 inches and I have seen several monster truck tire repairs he did that were say 10 inches by 5 inches..Worst case scenario is have it vulcanized and run a tube behind it. It won't be dot approved ;but, for offroading it will work fine. The only problem you will run into is finding someone that does vulcanizing and that will do it.My friend knows what I do with the tires and what any tire I bring to him for friend is used for.Because of this he will try(and always has so far) to fix any gash in the tread or sidewall regardless of location. Most places don't like to fix gashes near the bead..Hope this helps.

round here farmers take old tractor tires and bury half of the tire in the ground. they line their drive way like that.put them on the sides of the driveway so ppl dont drive in the yard

No they definitely get buried whole. When I was growing up we had tractor tires in my backyard for my brother and I to play on. It's almost more work to cut one in half than to bury it whole.

I grew up in a farm town and we had a bunch of half-buried tractor tires on the playground. They were cool to hide in and climb on.

When I lived in the Carribbean, the natives would make sandals out of old tire.

You could start a cottage industry........"Sx Slippers" <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

It's called searching, I was looking for the retread thread, wandered across this and couldn't help but reply. I normally wouldn't have, but what I added was no worse than what others had already posted.

:p

btw - it's technically 5.5 years old. :flipoff2:

You'd look as cool as my dad-which is to say "not at all"-when he used to wear a pair of tire tread sandals to car shows in the seventies. Luckily, I was too young to be really embarassed.

hey, if it made it easier for me to walk on uneven and slippery terrain... I don't care how ugly it is.

Wait just a doggone minute. This thread is almost six years old.

I'm going with this http://www.safetyseal.com/store/safety.htm
because I want my tires to be happy :)

OK, someone has to ask, WHY DO YOU NEED ANY MORE TIRES :flipoff2:
It looks like a tire outlet at his place.

I bet your wife would just love it also! :shaking:
