What is the best transmission/transfer case upgrade in a 6 cyl TJ?

Its a 98 TJ with a 5 speed.Just looking for something beefier.

Probably an AX-15 transmission, with a P231 TC.

Not sure,I'm posting for a buddy of mine who is running 35's.His trans is getting hard to shift and he was thinking of doing some kind of an upgrade.I told him to go back with the stock trans with 35's and he'd be fine.

IF he has the 6 cyl, then it is the AX15 which is notoriuos for hard shifting.

depending on all the specifics, since this is all coming second hand, you might relay to him that a fluid change to pennzoil synchromesh might make it a lot better. worked for me in my 94 with same tranny.
