yesterday i backed my 94 f-350 down to hook up a trailer and just before i hoped out the check engine light came on and the engine started idleing like a gas engine with a couple plug wires off. i cant get the computer to give up any codes with the reader i have. but when you floor it, it takes about 20 sec to get from 1K to 3K. and only if it is warmed up. if its cold it wont even get past 1500. if i could get the computer to spit out the codes i could probably fix it. if not into the shop it goes. but i'll still be fixing it. any ideas?

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? If it has been a long time change it, if it was recently you might have air trapped in the system and you need to bleed it. Happened to my bro's Cummins. I don't know the process on a power smoke but search the forum offroadr35 listed. They will have it listed there somewhere. HTH's
How's the condition of your oil and what's the oil level? PSD injectors are fired hydraulically so your oil could be a problem. Not likely but possible.

it sounds like the exhaust brake valve (ebv) is stilking. the valve is on the outlet side of the turbo , just a butterfly valve. and it could be sticking shut or a sensor is making it stay shut. If you disconnect the linkage to it you and manually hold it open.
Hope this helps.

Pop the hood and look back towards the back of the engine, back where the distributor would be if it were a gas motor Chevy. There is a pipe coming off of the turbo, with a rod, and some linkage, and a vacuum servo. That rod, linkage, vacuum servo are the cold start butterfly assembly. If you put in an exhaust brake, that is the part you change out. So, if you think that cold start butterfly is a problem, you may as well........

Does it die also? Sounds kinda like your cam position sensor. If it is, go to an International truck place, half the price of the Ford stealership. I buy every part I can from them.

POSSIBLY CHANGE YOUR OIL FILTER TO A FORD OR WIX, TO MUCH RESTICTION IN SOME FILTERS FOR THE INJECTORS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE, I PROVED THEM ALL WRONG
