i was looking round my yard today and found that old dana 44 out of a 79 f250. it has a broken diff housing. it is reverse cut. i compared it to a standard rotation cover, and the fill hole is like 2 inches higher. i was like cool. so im using the cover on my standard rotation dana 44 going under my Z71. im guessing it will hold bout'half a quart or more than a standard cover.

Aren't the holes at a certain height on the cover for a reason??? It seems like if it was better to put more oil in then some after market company would start making them with the fill hole near the top of the cover.....just a thought, might want to ask GearMan, he would probably know more about it.....

He's going to rotate the pinion to the sky <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">..He'll need the higher fill point.

Yeah the reverse's had to have it higher to get the oil up to the pinion to lube the bearings. Another difference is there is a oil slinger on the pinion on a reverse to sling the oil up to the bearings. On a standard 44 the oil slings off the ring gear and shoot it to the back but since the ring is turning the other way the pinion gear gets in the of that slinging and it's going the wrong direction anyway.
On a standard 44 your not gaining a whole lot if it's part time. The extra oil might help keep it a little cooler is all but doesn't need it for the lubrication reasons the reverse does.
