We'll have an official report later this week, when we get the numbers back from the BLM.
We hauled 8 cars and filled 3 roll offs. Estimates are around 75 people showed up for the cleanup, the VAST majority were wheelers. :flipoff2:

Thanks to everyone.

I was glad to be apart of this clean up. It was great seeing the amount of wheelers there. Great job!

The fun part was removing the cars from the trailer. The first one came off with great difficulty using a Toyota, the rest came off with my Superduty. Broke a 30k strap and the next one started separating.

Unfortunately no pics.

However, if there is any pic that should be put up soon is the one with the banner and the pirate salute.

That was way cool! Even if it showed me standing around holding a bucket. I was on a union break.

My thanks goes out to all who made it out for the clean-up.

look me up if you want to make a hike up to the city one of these days. We'll consider it a pre-run for when that damn gate comes down.

After seeing the pics of Panamint City after breakfast Sunday morning, Lisa said she'd like to hike up there. Did I hear something about March?

The afternoon one is better. I guess it's hard to get the SCA students and the BLM people to give a salute.

And in the one above Chris' finger is covering my face. :flipoff2:

SCA are back row, top, from Tom Budlong (the guy in the hat behind the flagpole) over to Craig Beck (BLM just right of tree).

Well, except for the kid gettin his :flipoff2: on.

Part of my crew is standing below the SCA bunch, and are not giving the salute. I am glad they did not get bunched in with the students.

 My crude drawing is not meant to be all inclusive. I knew those guys in front were on "our" side.

Just to be clear. This stuff is all in fun people. I appreciate EVERYONE that showed up to help, besides some of those SCA girls were :smokin:

The funnay was the lady holding the left side of the banner.

She first stood in front of the banner, Chris told her to hold it. Then on the pirate salute, she suddenly looked around and then flipped off the photogs.

I have a question , who is responsible for all the fires up there?? where all these vehicles and buildings destroyed like that before the area was closed to motorized access??

And Kudo's to all the people involved with this !!!

OTR
04-13-2008, 11:36 PM
The fire was started "accidentally" by one of the residents in September of 2006, over 5 years after the closure. The Novak's, who were occupying the former Chris Wicht camp, had been there for several decades and most if not all the debris for the fire was equipment, materials, and trash brought there by them over the years.

Yes there was alot of trash, and the success of the cleanup saved taxpayers 10's of thousands of dollars... Mabye more. The remaining debris and hazmat will be removed by a contractor in the hopefully not so distant future...
