: Dodge 60 into IFS Chevy
72blazer 02-04-2008, 11:30 AM So the thought is running around in my head to do a SAS on my '06 :D. Two things though. One, I don't want to go up in tire size or lift, want to keep it low as possible, probably stay in the 285 range, and want a better ride. So should I keep considering a SAS? Or keep the IFS? Second, I see almost everyone using the Ford 60, would it be possible to use a Dodge 60 instead and reuse the coils, brackets, etc.? I can see the Dodge 60 having the advantage since it's stronger than the IFS, it may have a matching gear set for my rear AAM, could possibly use the stock suspension to keep the level, since it's a new axle chances are I won't have to go thru it, etc...Any thoughts? Or am I bringing the homogheyness? :flipoff2:

If you want a better ride... then swapping in a solid front axle is going the opposite direction for you. That is, unless you go with some kind of air spring (air ride) setup.
My guess, most people are using the Ford D60 since it is the only driver's drop D60 with solid tubes and kingpins. For a crawler, this makes sense... for a tow rig, the ball joints and CAD of the Dodge D60 probably isn't that big of a deal.
Joey D 02-04-2008, 12:09 PM There is a kit to use an 03 and up Dodge axle in the GM, I seen it on the diesle place.
Rock Crawler is who has it
72blazer 02-04-2008, 01:11 PM thanks guys. yea I plan on adding air bags to the rear, but DD'ing it without a load, gets old quick. My original plan was to add the bags in the rear and new shocks all the way around...

I'm not talking about adding air bags to a leaf spring suspension... aka air bag overloads, I'm talking about using air springs (air bags) only! Like those used on semi tractors/trailers. Something like the Kelderman setups.
72blazer 02-04-2008, 05:16 PM  oh I see...I wouldn't want to do air bags all the way around...but I had forgotten about that option. thanks anyway.
montanatrout 02-04-2008, 05:58 PM most of the time when you put lifted spring on the truck is when you loose ride quality, you said you didn't want lift, so consider stock front leafs, most the time they are smooth, and good shocks, most like the ride quality of a superduty, mabey those springs?but I wouldn't even think about a dodge D-60. (late model) they are ok if thats what you rig came with but dont swap one in. They have failure prone wheel bearings that cost about 350 each, CAD, 30 spine diff., and no lock-out hubs (seen fuel prices latley). Other than that they are great! I just swapped a 78 D-60 into my 01 dodge and love it.

If you're gonna DD it, keep it low, keep reasonable size tires on it, and want it to ride good, why do you want to SAS it? Leave it alone and drive it.
Travis..
72blazer 02-05-2008, 07:51 AM b/c it'd look more angry with a sfa. & i do plan on keeping it low with 285s as noted in the original post...
rockkrawler SAS is 3K+ w/o the axle and little extras
crashnzuk 02-05-2008, 12:39 PM Sounds like alot of money to look ANGRY yo. Seriously, why? If you do it, make sure you post up the build.

72blazer 02-05-2008, 12:45 PM  yea it was just a thought...probably just slap on some tie rod sleeves & call it good :D
