Snapped a shaft off - spline's stuck in the Detroit.

Tips for extracting it?

Best way is to pull the carrier to take it out so that you can clean out any shrapnel that might still be in the tube.

If not you can take the shaft out of the other side, slide a small rod down the tube and knock the stub out.

How strong is your vacuum cleaner?:D

Like TWD said you'll need to pull the good side out (there is a good side, I hope) then poke the bad side out with a small rod.

Can't do that - there's enough of a stub left to not let me pull the carrier.

Ahh - I couldn;t remember if there was a hole all the way through or not, I thought the cross pin(s would be in the way?? I hope this will work.

Roll it on it's side

Now you're talking...I'll shake it too!

Tack a couple of welding rods together as one long one, long enough to reach the stub. Then tack to it and pull it out.

I've got it...

Stick some JB Qwik or putty on the end of some stock, stick it in the axle tube and hold it on the end of the stub for about 5 minutes, and...pull. VOILA. Oh, and let me know if it works, I just barely thought of it:idea:
