Just got back from Donner and hope Jeff only sees one screen not three. He did a double roll and it look like on the second he got knocked out but came too by the time it stopped. Medical said he was clear to go so he did but pointed out. JEFF YOU FULLY GOT IT ONNN. The only problem I say was I think the course was a little to hard. I only stayed at the first one. But I think only three or four made it. The rest rolled, broke( sorry Billy Bob ) or time or pointed out. But everyone was gettin it. I bow to you Jeff you the man

gotta have a pic to stir things up, well this was earlier in the day and my camera stopped working shortly after. its the same obsticle and what happened was jeff slid to the left of where the sammi is and the tire dropped down and he rolled 2wice and got his bell rung pretty well

BTW THE DUDE IN THE WHITE SHIRT IS A TOTAL FAWKHEAD, its clearly posted NO SMOKING and he had to be reminded of this TWICE!!!! not to mention his take on the day was "im gonna get drunk and watch some carnage cuz when im drunk stuffs cooler" fawkin moron  :shaking:

Another thing is one of the STUPID camera guys had a beer in his hand while he was on the course :shaking: thankfully Big Rich yanked his media pass and tossed him off the course. this isnt the message we want people to think of when they see rock crawling in the mags, im sure that photographer is in some pics with that can :shaking:

Good for you guys...right ON! I was thinking, before I read the script....oh good - a pic of a fat sunburned moron with a beer - that's a great image!!

Now - I'm no prude, and like a beer - but not on the freakin course....dudes are risking their freakin necks out there - people need to have their wits about them...and the image thing too!

Beer's for campfires!

jeff rolled...Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... I'm having trouble picturing it....NOT!

It kicked a$$.

Jeff also looked like he might have hurt his left arm/shoulder. As he returned to the bottom of the hill he seemed to be favoring the left arm. Hope all is well.

The event was WAY harder than Big Rich was planning on. The first course was supposed to be easier. instead the list of those to make it was very short compared to the 20 rigs that attempted it. Fatkid, Lance, Bob Roggy, Tin-Bender, another bender who I can't remember for the life of me. I think one of the URJB guys made it and maybe a SRC. If I can't remember them please forgive me. :emb3:

Camo broke......what a surprise:p , and no it wasn't his new high $$$ rear D-60. it was his tranny.

It was a lot of fun and I finaly got to meet some of the people on this board,

Thanks to all of the judges and Big Rich for putting the event on,
And    to the Four Clubs that made it possible.

i know the results.. because i just got back from donner judging and tallying the score.

Half of the people who attempted the last gate made it, so its not as bad as it seemed. Granted there were a few bad rolls.. shit happens..

You can not make a course so every body and their mother can make it..

Jeff even admited that he was impatient.. and should of relaxed. but he also said that he probably will never be able to do that.

The fundraiser turned out really well.. and the team that won deserved it..

Two people never did attempt it.. sam from src and scott from POR.. 8 people made it up that climb.. so i dont understand where the short list comes from

Camo did break.. never asked him what happened with the tranny.. but he got 1st gear working again.. but no reverse.

Damn near lost a finger when we were respooling his winch *ouch* still hurts.

He also broke a driverside birf on the front. Dont know when or where it happened.. didnt hear anything

Sorry, as a judge you were keeping better track of who did what than me, This was an impression of watching the event from the side lines.
I thought 6 and you said 8. no biggie.
Even so less than 50% successe on the first course is pretty

I didn't think Jeff's rollover was so freakin 'Cool'. It was downright scary. He did two complete side rolls and got his bell rung pretty good. He appeared to actually be unconsious at the end of the last one, if only for a few seconds. His arms and legs went stiff and he had the throttle mashed to the floor for more than a few seconds before he came to his senses and released it. Good thing it wasn't in gear. I talked to him afterwards and he was still shaking. He's a tough guy but that was a nasty roll. Anybody get a shot of the red paint on his helmet. Ouch!!!

Jeff, I was glad to see you were not hurt more seriously. Wait till you see yourself on video.

Kudos to the Medics too. They brought a chair and had Jeff sit down so they could take a good look. We're glad you didn't have to do more than that... ;)

i agree glenn.. i believe its stupid for people to say rolls like that are cool.. do they understand what can happen or could happen.. That could of been a lot worse than what it was. Jeff probably will be hurtin in the morning.

I say stick all those people who think thats cool in their own rig.. roll them down the hill twice.. and see if they still think its cool

Tony.. from what i found out through out the day.. that course was set up.. unfortunatly with no prerun. It seemed doable.. and when i walked it that morning.. it did not seem as bad as it was.. Granted it was worthy of any compeitition out there, its just some people did not know how to go along doing it.. If you noticed.. the people who where set up to run a compeitition pretty much crawled it.

As you said... theres competition rigs.. and theres trail rigs.

Oh yeah.. the line on that one.. was far right.. and take out the right cone at the top, if you couldnt avoid it.. which normally the tire, once crested would slide away from the cone and complete a flawless gate.

and that waterfall took everyone by surprise.. even the people who set the courses up.. granted some of the roll overs could of been avoided, and some couldnt..

I cant say what could of made it avoidable.. thats for the competors to say, because they knew what they did wrong

yeah it was cool but i was still concerned for jeff, i saw his upper boddy floppin around after the first roll and saw that he was still doin that when he stopped, then i saw him come to. thankfully SAR SAMMY was one of the first to rush to his aid and make sure he was ok. jeff definitly WAS hurting, after he got back down and was sitting you could see him holding his head and babying his shoulder. the only reason i personally think it was cool was because its kinda jeffs style, make it or break it. i mean every event ive seen him in hes just broke or broke doing something like he did today.what happened at moonrocks was just odd, he wasnt throttling it and bouncing around. i hope jeff is ok, like glenn said if you saw the paint on his helmet you would know how bad he got his bell rung, atleast he hit it on the rollbar instead of the ground which coulda gotten the rest of his face too.
btw, i liked how the judges kinda forgot about the counting and stops as the day progressed :flipoff2:

BADD_ASS ACTION!!! but a little to much for my Jeep...

After watching half of the competitors destroy their trucks, I let Mike Ladd take my spot. I know that Big Rich underestimated the course. He did not expect any rollovers, except for those that were looking to intentionally flop their trucks.

Props to all those that wheeled hard and made it look easy. Its pretty obvious who the competition wheelers are from the way they handled the course. Roggy blew me away with his effortless waterfall climb on course 1  I owe him a bottle of vodka :flipoff2:

Overall Team scores were as follows

Tin Benders 253 Points
Pirates of the Rubicon 301 Points
URJB 327 Points
Sierra Rock Crawlers 343 Points

And although it was a team event if anyone is curious the
Individual top 5 finishers for the day.

1st - Bob Roggy 23 Points
2nd - Mike Hendricks 27 Points
3rd - Lance Clifford 32 Points
4th - Fatkid 35 Points
5th - Mike Ladd 42 Points

Just to clear up about course 1 and the hill climb. 6 people made it up either the left line or the bonus right line. They are

(Tin Benders) Fatkid 20pts
(Pirates) Lance 29 pts
(Pirates) Bob 15 pts (should have been 5 but he barely touched the start gate with his tire)
(URJB) Tom Martin 21 pts (took the bonus line)
(Tin Benders) John James 27 pts (may have taken bonus line?)
(Tin Benders) Mike Hendricks 14 pts (may have taken bonus line?)

Jeff(h8monday) did the exact same roll but his was a little worse than eric's. Eric was ok physically after the roll, can't say much for the cruiser though. The cruiser got the bent rear link fixed thanks to some cool guys from sugarbowl. But the cruiser went back to the parking lot and eric drove the URJB jeep on the upper course.

I still think Troy from the Pirates had the worst rollover of the day on that upper course. If you saw his cage you would understand

your not kunfused your a pussy. that was the coolest roll. and yes i have rolled that hard and harder. i have even been medivaced out in a helicopter after doing three end over end rollls at 70 MPH in the mint 400 desert race. and that my friend was the coolsest wheeling i have ever done. i even have a 5 photo sequence of it hanging in my shop. my wife rolled twice backwards down a bigger hill than that in farmington new mexico in the womens rock crawl and it rung her bell good. he first words when i got to the rig was " god i hope we can finish the course" but of course we could not because she totaled the rig. if i die doing this shit than that will be exactly the way i want to go.

Ok, inquiring minds want to know. which broke, the left hub or the left axle shaft in the toy front end?
nobody around me heard any noise and yet the left tire was just along for the ride.

Ive seen a few of your rolls camo.. Granted none of them that you had to be airlifted out for. No matter how cool a roll is.. you dont want anyone getting hurt.

it was a sad and stupid moment for me. actually nothing in the front actually broke. when gearman and i were assemblying the front end we used an old style detroit locker and you need to run a martack on the axle. his welder was not in the shop so we used a punch and put a dimple in the splines. well it was not enuff and the inner axle just fell out of the birfield. hence no front wheel action. :( it was a stupid prep error on my part. the resulting effert at trying to force the the rig over the rock caused the tranny to bind up real hard and caused the reverse shift fork in my sm420 tranny to pop out of the shift rail due to the adjusting nut being slightly loose. again and error by the shop that rebuilt my tranny. keep in mind that this was the first time my rig had seen rock since new years because it was completly disassembled and rebuilt. just some of the bugs that i should have had worked out before taking it to a comp. thanks for the props on my driving. i was 3 feet from the finish and would have had a negitive 4 points for the obstacle. i had 5 back ups and one stop. ( fyi i think the best score of the obstacle was 11 points. :D )

imkunfused.

take a look at any desert race truck or buggy. or for that matter a NASCAR. they us window nets to keep body parts inside of the rig. i think we should as well and if i was intent on actually running my rig in competitions i would have window nets even if the rules did not reguire them.

story time:

back about ten years ago we were prerunning the mint 400 race course and a fellow competetior rolled his pre runner. back then your pre runner was not required to run window nets like the race car. well when he rolled his arm got caught under the cage and the car caught on fire. we tryed to get him out of the car but the fire spread to quickly and he burnt to death right in front of me. needless to say that even to this day i think about that every time i flop my rig and when i watch guys roll. in my opinion window nets should be installed on all comp rock rigs to keep body parts inside during a roll.

dude what are you talking about. i was prepared to completly destroy my rig in order to win. i can not speak for the other teams but the tin benders came to win and every one of us was willing to completly GET IT ! at all cost. if every one of us benders had to roll our rigs down a 15 foot rock face the way h8monday did in order to win then we would have. when we are out wheeling the hammers as a club we run harder lines than the course was set up.

we laugh. we were happy to break and roll to raise money to help save the con. after all what if we didn't have anywhere to wheel, because all the trails were closed ?

I thought about this and I don't know if people know exactly how important "hardcore" people are.

I am a roadrace fan and remember back (not that long ago) when Alex Zanardi was (still is) the shit! He lived life more than most of us ever will. He dominated CART and F1 and then returned to CART to stir it up there. He was involved in one of the most horrific crashes I've ever seen. I read a Sports Illustrated interview with him and he has the most awesome attitude. I remember him saying that Max Papis called him shortly after he was released from the hospital and asked him what he was doing. His response was, "about 200 km/h!" He was driving his car with hand controls down the Autobahn at 140 m/h. Does he regret his life?.....HELL NO!

Does he want to race again?......HELL YES!

CART was on top of the world when he was winning races. His trademark donuts (He did it way before Nascar drivers did) bought him and CART fans all over the world.

I'm not saying that if you win a rockcrawling event that you should do an end over end roll. But, rolls are an iminent part of rockcrawling events.

I'm glad H8monday is alright. A cool rollover is any one that the driver and spectators/spotter walks away from.

Edit
When do monster truck fans jump to their feet cheering?

Right after one of the trucks flops on its side.

Funny, I always thought that winning (or even finishing for that matter) competitions was cool. I guess that I don't "get it".

well i must say that was a awsome roll and i like the rest of you cheered it on. thats why you go to those events to see the rolls and carnage if there wasnt any of that would any of you be there. jeff like the rest of us no the risks going in to a event and thats what it is all about. nobody wants anyone to get hurt but we all no it is a possibility. to jeff and the rest of you that made it all happen :D as for the tinbenders :flipoff2: we will see ya next year hehehe and by then im sure there will be more safty rules implemented in our sport. my new buggy will have some NASCAR tech in it like the remote battery cutoff and window nets just to name a few. we might not be goin as fast but accidents are a part of this sport .

well considering that h8monday is a tin bender and WE did win I guess that makes him even cooler. and my guess is that he is sure to get magazine coverage as well from it. so what part don't you get.

1. he did win.
2. he put on a great show for the fans.
3. he is sure to get alot of media coverage for his effort.

whats so hard to understand about that?

Camo,

I have no questions in my mind that you would lay it all out of the line for this and any other event. And as long as the Cruiser guy is happy with the way things turned out then so be it.

My point all along has been, It's not Rich's deal to protect you from yourself, any driver can pass on a stage if he's not up to it .

Everyone freeking out n the board this weekend are all about one thing. A few rigs where out of control on thursday and they don't like that.

The fact still remains, the Tin Benders are the best this year and nothing should take that away.

see ya,

tony k

Just one more thought.....

Almost every competitor is doing these events without insurance. Your auto policy and home owners insurance prohibit competition of any kind. The event promoter doesn't cover you very well. That means your only line of defense is staying in control of your rig.

The only guy I know that has the correct insurance is walker Evans.

So when I see a rig with the gas peddle on the floor and the lights aren't on in his head, I see all of this fun coming to an end. Jeff got a house? Does he want to give it to someone on the side of that hill?

Stay in control...quickest way out of control is to roll it over...period.

I had a great time and so did my FJ. My talked my mom (who doesn't go wheeling) into coming to watch for the first time but she wont be back. Her and my girl friend are crying when my FJ rolled. Oh well, they will get over it. I will be back next year and I am sure I will have just as much fun. Everybody seemed to be a good sport and very friendly. Thanks everybody for a good time and I look forward to see all you on the trail.

you had on of the cleanest cruisers i have ever seen actually wheeling and you my friend were GETTING IT !. sounds like you have the right mind set for the game. FYI even when my mom goes to the desert races she does not actually go out to the desert and watch. she says it makes her to nervous. must be a mom thing.

post some detail pics of your smashed rig. we want to see the carnage.

Thank you all, for the concerne and the applause.

Yes I am 100% OK.

The TIN:skull:BENDERS, had a great day on the rocks, and we did what we needed to do, to take the victory.

The courses were challenging, but not overly difficult, its just that my big mistake of the day, turned out to be pretty spectacular.

I ran the 1st course, (up to the rollover) excactly the way Dan and I, had planned it. We had only had only accumulated 13 points by the time I made the bottom of then last climb, and I still had 8 minutes left. I made an attempt to crawl it, but I was getting almost no traction at all on the loose material. I made 2 light throttle charges at the hill, to test how it felt. I thought it fely alright and I was confident that a hard charge at the hill would get the job done,......I was wrong. I hit the hole that Lance had dug durring his full awn charge up the hill, and launched me off the hill.
I slammed the tranny out of gear as I was going over(but some people have told me that it was trying to climb when it landed????). The 1st hit rang my bell, and although I didnt go to sleep, I was very disoriented, and could not even pull my foot off of the throttle, even though I was looking at my foot(it was actually planted on the brake pedal and the throttle) and tried to remove it.
In any case, whan I finally stopped rolling, I was awake.
I landed on the tires and tried to continue, but I was just too disoriented, and pointed out after hitting a few more cones just trying to turn around.
The Safety crew did a great job, of checking me out, and remained concerned about me throughout the day.

I totaly agree that its OK for the spectators to think that rollovers are cool. They are totaly exciting!
But from a competitors point of view, it is the last thing that you want to do when your in a competition. Rollovers very often cause you to point out on that course, and sometimes even end your day. In a team event, it affects your entire team.
The rollover was a miscalculation, and cost our team 40 points on course number 1,....but if anyone was paying attention, I lined up on the upper course about an hour later, and with my knees knocking and my heart pounding, we put together an excelent run for 17 points.

The rollover was a wild ride, and Im glad I didnt hurt anyone.
I am deffinitely rethinking many components of my cockpit, controls and cage.

Just some small dents in the cage.
Rock rash is eveident everywhere, including one of the rear discs, had a chunk knocked out of it.
I traded a lot of paint between the cage and my helmet.
Mechanicaly, though its very sound, I took it back too Dans and looked it over for a couple 0f hours, then went out to the Con and spent the weekend wheeling(I took it easy though, and mostly kicked back at camp and drank).

I saw Chris Collard taking closeups of the inside of Troy's cab,
just after the roll, with the flash turned on.
He was one of those with a press pass, and could get better pics.
Not sure where (or if) he posts his pics, though.
I took one, but it didn't turn out that good. I'll send it to you.
