: might be geeting a Rangie for free
junior80 02-04-2008, 08:37 PM The thing has been sitting for 2 years and posibly mine in the next few weeks.
I really want to bastardise this thing, use it on the beach and as a shooting rig. What are the cheap/ simple things you can do to a rangie to make them less of a hassle to run, more practical to use, etc.
There must be a few mods that you have done to your rangie that you like, what are they?
I want to spend as little as possible on this thing. (I am pretty good with a mig and know how to aim a grinder if you know what I mean)
thanks.
Tom.

spork2367 02-04-2008, 11:06 PM take the engine and wiring harness out and replace it with toyota stuff. then take the axles out and replace them with toyota axles. then when you figure out what a PITA that will be, part it out and buy a toyota frame, transfer case, and transmission to go with the rest of your toyota stuff.
pendy 02-05-2008, 12:30 AM Rip out the back seat and take your girl to the beach. Save on hotel costs for shagging.
Could cost you in CS later though.

I'll think about it:p

I know it's an unreliable POS, but it's free and I already have a toyota.

billtbower 02-06-2008, 08:52 AM i think we all may just need a :smokin:
junior80 02-07-2008, 12:52 AM I stopped by the rangie today and hooked it up to my work van with some jumper leads, All the power windows, mirrors and lights work:D, but the van's battery didn't have enough grunt to turn the rangie's engine over.
I might have been better hooking it up to my watch battery:shaking:
I'll go back tomorrow night in the cruiser and have another go.
until then I'm going to have a few:smokin:

You overpaid.
spork2367 02-07-2008, 11:13 AM probably should come with beer for hauling it off your friends property.
jeepdaddytj 02-07-2008, 06:26 PM hooked it up to my work van :
what do you do?
junior80 02-07-2008, 09:00 PM what do you do?
locksmith.

Really? You can usually turn an RV8 over with a half-dead calculator battery. Did the solenoid click?
junior80 02-08-2008, 05:04 AM it did.
what happened exactly, was when the work van was hooked up to it, the first 3 or 4 times I turned the ignition switch, it made a fast clicking sound then nothing.
tonight when I had it hooked up to the cruiser it only made one click each time I turned the switch.
so, i dunno whats wrong with it, I'm not schooled up on rangies at all. If you guys can offer any help then sweet, otherwise I'll have to find a rangie expert here in sydney and pick their brain.
fridgefreezer 02-08-2008, 05:43 AM The fast clicking is the solenoid engaging, then as it makes contact the starter drags the battery voltage down so the solenoid lets go, then the battery recovers and it engages again, etc, etc.
One click suggests it is engaging but can't turn the starter, either your jumpleads are lame as hell or something's seized. Can you turn the engine by hand / with a socket on the crank nose nut?

They tend to get very expensive very quickly.

Probably should take a door too...if it gets hot you can roll the window down.:flipoff2:

I'll head up this arvo after work and try turning it over by hand. If the thing doesn't turn, is the engine most likely siezed and can't be fixed or is there something else I can do?
