kinda wondering what it takes to break a stock 300 rear output shaft? plan to run 37's with a tbi 4.3 thru a sm420 and stock 2.6-1 gears in the 300.

you could take some of the weight off by givin me the tailgate, then you would never have to worry:D

I have broken 2 output shafts in dana 300s.

I broke one of the long ones. I was running a stock 6 cyl and an NV4500. My tires were 38's and was running 5.13 gears. I went to the short shaft version after that and never had a problem other than i t seemed to pop out of gear going down hill sometimes. Since then I've gone to a 5.0 H0, Atlas II and 42s. :D

I've broken two of them, both the result of the Jeep hopping when trying to climb. This with a mild 304 and a T18.

F.S.- with that setup you'd really have to be stupid abusive to break it- unless your rig weighs 6k or something.

I've run a 300 for 8 yrs, first an efi 258 with NP435 and 2.62, up to a 35" tire, then 5.2 mag/46RH with 2.62 with 38.5's or 37 krawlers

I compete in rocks and speed stuff and do recreational wheelin too.

Things like 5k+weight, 4-1, lots of right foot, severe vehicle bounce, binding joints and shafts, big motors, lots of crawl ratio before the output will all be tougher on the shaft- one or two of these items will often be fine- otherwise it can break, I know people who have but never witnessed it.

I'd run it with your set-up without a second thought.
