I have a 10-bolt front end, stupid me thought it was a 12-bolt, but anyway is that stronger than a Dana 44?

Some of the 10 bolt parts are actually larger than 44 but the axles need to be upgraded to 30 spline 44 is better for wheelin but a tow rig or 4x that is not used in an extreme way can live just fine with a 10 bolt

when did GM start using the 10 bolt instead of the 44?

I would say the 44 is a little stronger, plus there are more upgrades availiable for the 44.

When I first started wheelin' I was told by everyone I met that 10 bolts won't last long under much stress. I've been running mine for 5 years now but the only reason they haven't had any problems so far is I have 3.08 in them, i think.

I was talking to Stephen Watson over at www.offroaddesign.com (http://www.offroaddesign.com) one time and he told me you could use the spiders out of a 12 bolt carrier in a 10 bolt to switch to 30 spline axles. I've looked at his site and didn't see anything on it though. Anyone else know?

why would you think it was a 12 bolt? so far nobody hear can confirm any such thing as a 12 bolt front end. A guy was selling on in the 4sale section, but no one ever heard of it.

I only thought it was a 12-bolt cuz it had "GM 12" stamped on the carrier.
That's all.

Plus, this carrier is 30 spline, so after reading the posts above, this sounds a little weird.

That was me selling it, but I backed out after I realized I was wrong, and I didn't want to sell something that wasn't what the buyer thought it was!

I ran out of fingers cuz I was too busy scratching my head!
