: Window nets

I just finished reading the Carnage thread and saw it again. Someone rolls and their body flops around creating a potentially dangerous situation. It's a great thing that people now wear helmets during competitions but what do you guys think about window nets to keep appendages inside the vehicle during a roll? I think they would be a good idea. Competitive rock crawling is still new but being safe should be fairly simple if safety devices from other motorsports can be adapted to competitive rock crawling.

Window nets.. great idea..

Impractical tho..i dont think i saw one vehicle with doors.. or windows thru out any compeititon ive been at.

Its just not something that would work very well with the lack of doors..and the need to get inside the vehicle quickly..

I mean if a competitior wants to run with door nets, to some sort of safety.. great.. i just dont think it would work

I voted yes......

we have been looking at the idea since CalROCS first event, we have been in discussions with Bell Industries. We like the idea of nets, but believe the NASCAR style are overkill, so we're hoping to come up with a different design for crawlers.

I think a better idea would be some sort of restraint system for their hands and helmets like the sprint car racers use. Everyone would be complaining about not being able to see with a window net I would think. You could have them made with quick release straps like found on a Hans device. If you would like pics of the quick latch system I pit crew for a friend that has one.

I voted yes even tho I'm not much of a rockcrawler. I put one in my truck cause I've been running pretty high speeds when I wheel.

heres one for you guys that dont run doors too. http://w1.863.telia.com/~u86303952/Truck/Side_large.jpg

I have thought about this too, Heck I even have a set.
But i don't see a good way to mount them, I mean you have to get in and out rather quick, still have good visabilty, this just is not going to happen IMO with the current window nets

Look at the way the military set up their door nets on the M151A2. They had two seat belt latches atached to the front of the cage and the nets just snaped into those. Real easy and fast to hook up and take down.

Hmm, thats an idea, i was also thinking like a Boat cover snap, THey look like a Zues fitting, they have that circle on the net part, then you twist a thumb screw and it unlock, I think i am going to need a pic to explain this

I voted yes for safety purposes.

I could just picture a guy's first instinct when rolling could be to stick that hand out............. ouch!

Arm restraints would suck for rock crawling, you wouldn't be able to saw at the wheel as much. Plus the netting keeps in your legs too, unless you want to go with leg restraints.
