I was just reading through the Aug 2002 edition of Four Wheeler and came across this article. "A dry cell battery designed for Deep discharge, and high pulse rate." (quoted from article) From what I read it sounds bad ass. Here's a web addy for the manufaturer.

phone: 800-546-9611

Quote: From the web site:

Welcome to the factory site of ODYSSEY® Drycell™ Batteries. This site does not offer product for direct purchase, but is provided by the manufacturer to inform the designer, distributor, dealer as well as the user in properly selecting an ODYSSEY battery to meet or exceed their need.

The ODYSSEY® battery combines in one box the characteristics of two separate batteries. It can deep cycle as well as provide enormous cranking power — it is almost as if a champion long distance runner and a world class sprinter are one and the same person.

These batteries are capable of providing engine cranking pulses in excess of 1700A for 5 seconds as well as 400 charge/discharge cycles to 100% depth of discharge (DOD). A typical starting. lighting and ignition (SLI) battery can do one or the other, but not both. It is either a sprinter or a long distance runner; ODYSSEY® batteries will do both — provide short duration high amperage pulse or low rate long duration drains.

Hmmm I'm glad I haven't purchased a "good" battery yet, this just might be the ticket!!:smokin:

Wonder what this battery cost? Can't seem to find much on price. Also, it's seems very heavy.

I have been running one for the last 3 years (pc1200) and it's still going strong.
I belive the price was in the $130 area but I also got it through a friend who runs an auto electric shop.

i had one for about a month. it was a great batt. but it was the smallest one they make. can't remember what size. but it would really crank the 11.5 compression 377 that i have in the bronco.
but when i went to use the winch it would pull great for about 5 sec. then it would hardly turn the winch.
but the larger ones look like they would be kick ass.

also someone has told me that when they go bad there is no warning at all.

they are vary lite. i think the one i had was like 14 lbs. that is just one reason the racers like them.
