OK choosing components from various front or rear axles ranging from D44 on the small end to D60 on the large end what combinations would you put together to build an axle. Case for front and for rear. Goals in mind are increased clearance and some weight reduction over the 60 but stronger than the 44.
Example d44 center 60 outers hybrid super metal axles.
9" center, 60 axles and outers.
What about steering options? High steer obviously but whose? Rock ram, you betcha.
You get the picture, what combination would you put together? Or what would you do if the 44 is just too small and the 60 is just too big? Not to mention the 60's are WAY OVER PRICED nowadays.

If money's isn't tight - I'd say 9" centers with 60 outers. Hysteer w/ hydro assist from LakeTex. ARB's too <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I would look at www.maxles.com (http://www.maxles.com) to see what kind of price you could get on a rc44 w/35 spline axles. I have a friend who runs the rear with 35 spline and fully gets it and hasn't had any problem with it yet. He is the one on their site with the red TJ. They are working on a 35 spline front right now. Trying to get an ARB to workout. Check them out.
You get the light weight 44 with greater strength than stock yet not the size of a 60.

Me thinks both the axles you proposed would cost more than a regualar 60. You're talking about using the expensive parts of the 60 anyways.

What about:
Front - RC44 center with D50IFS knuckles out (same asa 60 I think, but much cheaper and easier to find in a junkyard)
Rear - Expensive - some kind of "Super" 44 (custom 35 spline shafts / carrier / spool
or
Cheap - Home shaved D60 or 14 bolt

It has alot to do with the weight of the rig this goes in and what tires. For the rear a 60 is hard to beat because you can get them from the junkyard cheap and there are soo many options. ARB or OX in whatever you build though.

If money was not the problem I would get a set of those rockwells that Avalanche are producing. Just one word "SWEEEEEEEEET" If you manage to break one of those babies your next rig will have to be a tank...

I did a 35 spline Nodular 9" shaved center section and D60 35 spline outers.
Used a Detroit. Screw an ARB. I have hydo assist and the tie rod is behind the axle like ANT does his.
Got mine built at Sunray Engineering.
It has 2 inches more clearance than my rear D60.

Pretty sweet. How much did that set you back? It sounds alot like what I want to have done.
