: More Kate Progress.....
wngrog 07-05-2002, 02:58 PM It is all looking great out there. More progress pics...
The Lokar shifter is in and all the shifters will fit in the stock tranny hump holes.
The 1" body lift REALLY helped.
I had them install an external fuel pump from a 460 Ford truck engine :D
wngrog 07-05-2002, 03:00 PM Her is Rodney doing some wiring. When I bought the engine, I was missing a VERY important part of the wiring harness. The Firebird harnesses are in 2 peices and I was missing one. Rodney is having to make a new one as I searched for 7 days with no luck :(
GloNDark 07-05-2002, 03:00 PM All that trick sh!t and you still got the stock gas tank in there? ;) It must not leak like mine did. hahaha
Looks awesome!! Cant wait to see it in action. :D:D:D
wngrog 07-05-2002, 03:01 PM Here are the custom motor mounts...these babies are bomb proof!
wngrog 07-05-2002, 03:04 PM I decided to go with single exhaust for the simplicity factor. Less metal to get crunched on the rocks...
wngrog 07-05-2002, 03:06 PM My rear axle is getting "Shaved" on Monday so that is why I am a little light in the rear right now.
This engine/tranny/transfer combo is 8" shorter than my 2F SM465 Atlas combo so the pinion will be coming down a considerable amount as well.....

That is the best place for it...no problems routing around it or bashing it on shit. Also the weight distribution having it the middle rocks!
wngrog 07-05-2002, 03:09 PM Guage Cluster....I decided to put the Check engine light where the High BEam indicator is supposed to go :D
No blinker indicators, no High beam
Butch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
texican 07-05-2002, 03:24 PM You'll probably expect me to inspect it and ignore this fact:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I really don't like the Heep mirrors though........:rasta:

Pin Head 07-05-2002, 03:35 PM What is the stock steering box bracket for? A cable attachement point for turning it back over again?

LOL
Hey nolan don't feel bad, I was so stoked to have my power steering done that I still haven't ground the rivets out completely out of mine. haha The bracket is gone for the most part but the rivets and corners of the bracket are still there.

High5 07-05-2002, 05:21 PM somebody got some street tires:D
texican 07-05-2002, 07:10 PM Hey Pin Head!
He left the steering box bracket so when he puts it back stock, one more thing he won't have to change back !!
DavidO 07-05-2002, 11:14 PM Very nice!
I'm very jealous. It's been about a year since I started working on mine. Still not even close to finishing. First I'm poor but have lots of time. Finally, the money (and business) pick up, but no time. Very frustrating. Maybe by Xmas. My axles finally got here, so now at least I'll start laying some permanent roots with it. Send more pics as you get them. Can't wait to that thing in the flesh.

If I was to do it over I would go single exhaust on mine. I also know the whoes of not getting all the parts of the FI dooner car. It sucks running around looking for a few modules or 2' of wire. But it is all worth it in the end, there is nothing like sitting a crazy angle and listening to the V8 thumping with out a hick up! Looks good!

I traded my competition Kimber .45 for some nice street tires!
The guy even threw in road hazzard and lifetime balancing :D
coyote 07-06-2002, 04:20 PM Nolen, If you don't mind me asking how many dollars to shave down the axle and how much are you taking off? Are your plans to turn the ring gear or just smooth the bottom and plate it? I've called several places here and most won't touch it........

I am the guinea pig for a D60 with Sunray. They are concerned about welding the plate to the housing with long term abuse.
Needless to say, they are making me a deal to test out a new method.
They have not decided whether they are going to turn the gear or not. I will keep you posted.

Yup the FI V8 w/OD auto is great on the street. (Even better with selectable lockers too!) Just watch the temptation to show that little thump, thump prick in the Honda what a real modified vehicle is! Street race.... HELL YA, I'll beat ya then drive you over ya little winged freak! oh ya back to the point, the PD seams to favor going after the dude in the red cruiser! (If I am not mistaken your rig is red as well!) Better off just driving over the Honda at the stop light and getting it over with right off the bat. :p It is amazing how a bunch of power under the hood corrupts one quickly!
My Honda eater... er I mean rock crawler/currently daily driver...tickets not shown:flipoff2:
wngrog 07-07-2002, 07:09 PM Sweet!!!! I love the looks of those TPI's.......
Shoot it from another angle, i have to figure out what to do with my batteries....
Do you still have the Toyota heater blower in there?
Really nice. Are you using the stock FJ40 radiator? What temp range are you running on the road? I dropped in a 18" mech. fan w/2" spacer to just move inside my shroud today, and she still wants to hit 230 degrees on the road. Next step is to trim some inner fenders I guess. I'm just hard headed about dropping $200 + on a new radiator if I can make this one work.
texican 07-07-2002, 08:23 PM >I got that for Butch
The only time I have ever ridden was prior to you earning the "Rollin' Nolen"..............
My favorite memory in Kate, Poteau Ok. and the headlights hitting what seemed to be a F'n vertical wall, on a trail with no other routes, and we knew we had no choice. I'll never forget us both looking at each other at the same time and saying Holy S***.

BJ On Roids 07-07-2002, 10:02 PM clean looking install helocat!!!
eat some hondas for me!!
yeah i love streeting my cruiser, SOOO many looks, and waves and cheers :D sooo big and sooo bright and unusual
and you can pretty well slaughter anything to 40mph unless its turbo aswell :nuke: :D
after that though, my low gearing rears its cool head, and she picks up a little slower, top speed is around the 70mph but your normally got 4 or 5 carlengths on them and there girl and mates are grinning
you cahllenged a wall in a SWB cruiser!! nice, ever tipped it over backwards? or forwards? i nearly have sooo much and it scares me.....sometimes i think maybe i should be at 105" or something, but i love my rampover too........the 100" is a happy medium i think

Here is another shot of the engine bay. Yes the factory heater blower is still in place. I am currently only running one battery, however if I go to a second I will mount it under the rig in the back. I may move the single one back there anyway just for the lower CG. I squeezed the tiny ARB compressor next in between the heater blower and the battery. I even converted the factory carb cooler to a blow fresh air across the factory PS box. Even with a custom heat shroud the box used too get warm next to the headers. If you look close you can see the cruse control just off the end of the brake MS. Heading out for the trails, I just punch in 70 and the 383 holds in right in there regardless. Easy add on once you have a speed sensor for the engine computer, and fun to have.

Yes that is the factory radiator, but still a bit different. My rig came stock with A/C so Toyota added 2" to its width. I am using a massive 5 bladed 19" clutch fan off of a big block truck. When I was running just the 305, I could never get the thing off 180 (w/o a shroud). (some times never up to 180!) Now that I moved to the 383 I use a shroud and I do creep up to 190 on the street some times. In Moab on the Rim trail I got up to 210, and I backed off of romping on it. It dropped back down. It's a whole new ball game with 6.2 liters of motor!
BJ, yup we top out quickly running the low gears, that's why you make sure the see what a SX Swamper looks like nice and close like! Hmmm I wonder why they don't want to pass....

Here is me going over forward.....I hit a tree about 8 feet off the ground and miraculously landed on 2 wheels and I drove it out.
I broke a Birfield after my 2 wheel landing.
Moral:L don't take on a hill you may need to drive out of fast in granny low gear. I smashed the gas and nothing happened!
