: Orbit eye leaf springs

Anyone heard of these? They seem to work pretty awesome. I have been doing some research and it looks like we could get these to work for our samurai's. The front toyota leaf springs are the same size as the YJ leafs. The packs from orbit eye look extremely well put together with numerous thin leafs in each pack. Not to mention the pivot joint in the spring eye. Only down fall is the cost. The rear ones are 52" long you could really extend your wheel base with these. The ball thing inside makes the spring hanger out to be about 3.5" but they make a spring hanger just for these so you could whack off the samurai ones and custom place the spring hanger where ever you need to.
What do you all think? Food for thought anyway.

I've seen these, they look really cool. Almost like a "Johny Joint" at one (or both) end of the spring. I would think it would be really easy to get these for the sami. The web site says they take into acount each vehicles setup (ie. weight) and build the springs for that exact truck.

Here is a link:
http://www.aor4x4.com/orbit-eyepoly-eye.htm

Says they can build them for almost any vehicle. Only downside is the price $475-$625 a pair!!!

OE100 Orbit-EyeTM alone (for your own brainstorm) $55.00 each
just by the eye and put it into your YJ'S

my buddy was gonna buy some for his yota, until I told him not to because of a thread I came across in the yota section. FIrst things first, they are way tooo much cash. Second not many people have them or want them, so whats that tell you. Third, and most important thing I read was Zags comment on them. He said he has them on his yota and from what he could tell they were no more impressive than any other spring he had ran before and it was his opinion that they were just a "gimick"

I wish...the O.D. of the Orbit Eye is WAY bigger than a stock bushing, they will only fit in a custom spring. Orbit Eyes are really cool though, my buddy has then on his yoda and they work really well.

they were just a "gimick"
I have watched the ones on toymakers rig and they are more than a gimmick, the spring hardly twists at all even when its really flexed. They may not increase travel a bunch, but I bet they make the spring last way longer.

Second not many people have them or want them, so whats that tell you.
Nothing...popular onpion is no way to judge how good anything is...if it was you "should" be driving a Jeep.:D

I know scaw, but that was one of the things that the thread said, not my own personal opinion. I think they are awesome and work great, just not for the price AOR wants for em'.

The thing is though the orbit eye itself is not real expensive like 55.00 a piece. it's those spring packs you are really paying for. They are no more expensive then a custom made high quality. You can have them made to what ever lift size you want.

YOure right, it is the springs you pay for cause they are ALcans. SO if you have found a spring for the eye's to fit in, go for it

why not keep the springs your running and do like geiger at allpro with a johny joint in the shackle hanger? does almost exactly the same thing. it will take a lot of stress off your springs and your not stuck running AOR's springs with no other options for the future. :flipoff2:

Not real famaliar with johhny Joints are they strong enough for that situation.

poppycock
07-06-2002, 07:44 PM
they will hold... they are also used for suspension links. here's chris geigers rig

That is sweet looking do you know if he noticed much of a difference with the johny joints? I love the way he did those U-Bolts. Don't have to worry about Fawkin those up on a rock or log.

it's nice if you got $$$ in your springs and want them to last longer. they also work with any leaf spring. it's all about versatillity. :grinpimp:

chris has a huge thead of his buildup in the toy section... "maximum sawzall"

The OE's keeps the spring inline with its original alignment, Geigers set-up has the spring shifting way out to the side. Probably ok for a trail only set up, but seems like a handful on the road.

Looks like the question is then how much force does it take to make the johny joint shift that way. If it didn't do it to bad on the highway That sounds like the way to go.

Or run a track bar on the street with a QD for when you need the flex.:usa:

Waste of money, seen too many good workin rigs without it to justify actually payin for it, get rid of those poly bushings for starters and build it right to begin with, almost seems like a typical jeep thread.

What would you suggest using instead of poly bushings? BMW hi tech bushings?:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Seriously though I can see where those Johny Joints would work cool. Where might I get one?

How about rubber:flipoff2:

Rubber sucks arse. It binds to the bolt and wears out really quick if your running Mlinks. I know for a fact that the rubber bushings are one of the things that is screwing up my front missinglink articulation. I took the links off and went to rotate them manually and that fawkin rubber was like sand paper binding it in place.

Rubber flexes much beter than Poly so put a greasable bolt in there and get over it

BMW rubber probably is poly:flipoff2: And to be honest, i stick with rubber, flexes way better than poly. IMO why do all this boingy boingy stuff and then be held back by rock solid poly bushings ? Im beginning to wonder who the newbies are around here :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

All Pro sells the Johnny Joints alone for $38 each, or has the Johnny Joint Shackle hangers ( have a flat set of plates welded to them that just welds to the bottom of your frame ...easy) for $99 a pair, or can do the pair with shackles for $169 pr. which includes lower greasable bushings & bolts with zerks. I bought a set before I left and plan on using them on my Zuk.. I'll post pics once installed.

How about a new look at not binding your springs with a spring piviot at the axel. It keeps the spring in stock alinment and alows the axel to drop with out bind. These are home made but if you can not build them your self I am sure they can be bought some wear as to it was not an original idea I had.

They alow good flex, I noticed more with them in place and they do give a very small amount of lean in hard corners so I would not put them on your street racer!! Also I built them with 2 1/4" of lift to match a bigger front spring.

i looked into making these... only seen them on a couple rigs though. it's like running a block with the height involved to make it work though.

Yeh but this block is 7" long and I have not noticed any wrap due to it and I am pushing alot of ponys!

Probably work on trail rig or the rear end on a daily driver looks pretty scary though.

Sh!t this rig gets driven every where and at 75-80 mph with one finger on the wheel. Like I said before the only efect it has besides great flex is a little body roll on fast turns!
