: drive flanges vs manual hubs for ff

well i finished making my 9" ff using CNC'ed flanges, chev spindles, ford hubs etc but now i need to figure out what to use on the ends. originally i was going to get the shafts made to have a 19 spline outer and just use the waggy d44 front drive flanges. then i decided to bore out the spindles so i can have 30 spline outers. now for my question, would you guys use the warn drive flanges or ff rear hubs locks. both of these will be sliding into the ford d44 hub. right now i am not flat towing so this is not really a concern. one more thing is the 3rd has 4.56 gears and a 31 spline detroit in it.

I would do 30 spl flanges, but if you do go with hubs, carry a flange or two as spares. I do, for my front end. That way you're not stuck somewhere with only one wheel turning.

I would go to stock car products website and see what the off the shelf 9" full float axleshafts have and use that rather then a custom one off job that cannot be bought with a phone call.

just another thing to look at:

I built a similar rear end years ago using the 80-96 f-150 hub and rotor and a 30 spline drive flange. The weak link turned out to be the hub and rotor. Kept splitting the hub part. Made a 1/4" x 2" ring to go over the outside of the hub assembly. This seemed to help, but I sold the jeep soon after.

see ya,

unless you flat tow then get the flanges. the hubs are the weak link in a rear application.
