Well today was the first day of trying to crank over my old heep. It didnt go well and i have two problems.

First, while looking for stuff i found two wires coming from the wiring harness. A red and a black one with Hoops. As if they are meant to have a bolt hold them down. This is on the starter side of the engine. I'm guessing the black is ground, and it has enough room to reach the a spot on the block for grounding. I have no clue on the red wire though. Any ideas?? I can try and get pictures if needed.

Lastly is that when we tried to turn over the engine, it wouldn't. The starter solenoid is hooked up. the batter is properly grounded, the starter is properly hooked up. And after a few tries the starter solenoid made a loud noise. Similar, but louder then the annoying seatbelt noise. Any ideas on what is wrong??

:mad3: I wish i could say that

Anyhow i'll try to trace it tomorrow. I guess i was just hoping that someone could post "Thats a dumb question, of course those wires go to the (insert device)" :homer:

It's happened to me before. Is your battery fully charged?? A low or weak battery will cause the solenoid to make this noise.

The battery is pretty much dead. It doesnt hold a charge and all the power is through my charger and its "motor start" feature.

Just for grins I would try a new battery first. A dead batt can also make the "Motor Start" feature not very capable. While it SHOULD go from the cables staraight to the starter and ground, a dead batt can still rob some of the amps required to start it.

I found a site and apparently those two wires are the "Altitude jumper wires" for if you run your jeep over 4000ft above sea level.

The problem is that the color coding on the site doesnt fit my jeep. They say black and white. I have black and red and it shows the black as a non-ground.

so uhm yeah WTF.

Well my buddy dropped off the battery from his beater. The engine cranks right over now.

Thanks for the help everyone. Now I just gotta focus on getting those vaccum lines connected, make sure it has spark. And check to make sure i hooked the fuel pump up right...Although i wonder if an electric one would save me some hassle.
