I recently purchased an 06 TJ Rubi, and for the first time played around with the 4x4 system today. For anyone with Jeep Rubicon experience, about how long does it typically take for the Front/Rear lockers to engage/disengage? Once engaged the locker indicator seems to flash for approx a minute or so before becoming a solid light. Is this normal? What should we expect?
Thanks!
The light blinks, indicating the licker is trying to lock, IIRC, the light stops blinking once the locker is engaged.
The locker engages, (air bladder fills) and then you need to roll forward or backward for it to actually "lock" in.
You know the whole "down once rear, down twice both" deal right?

Ya, I got that down. I think I was sitting still when I was waiting for it to indicate locked. If slowly rolling forward, what is the amount of time typical to go from blinking to locked?

The time varies. usually one wheel needs to be rotating faster than the other (Ie; turning after pressing the button)
usually they wont engage if @ a dead stop. same goes for unlocking.

I'm still running the factory stuff after 4 years of decent use...I found that the best way to get them to engage is to turn slightly if your not already. Getting them to engage is usually easy when you are in a "off-road" terrain and your aired down, your tires have a better opportunity to not spin equally..so the locker teeth mesh faster.
I've used my lockers hundreds of times and the only issues I have had is getting the rear to dis-engage a couple times, but nothing that a little turning or leaving it on didn't fix.
If I'm in a tight spot and can't move very far I have also just rolled slightly in neutral to get them to actually engage/dis-engage. I think it locks/unlocks easier with more use..maybe it's cause my tires are worn.
The point is that it will lock when it needs to.
I have a rubi axle in the rear, but only engage it when doing an obstacle. It's pretty instantaneous on my rig (I don't have the indicator light hooked up).

Watch for a "fast" blinking light too. If it's blinking fast, it will never go solid, but that doesn't mean your lockers aren't working. It means there's some electrical issue in the system. Mine does that from time to time and I still haven't figured it out. The worst part is...I can't duplicate the problem when it's actually in the shop :(
One thing I learned the hard way last weeekend too...be very careful with big tires with the front locked at a hard turn. I blew up a D44 Chromo in 2 spots that way :smokin:
