I am doing a sas and wonder if anyone around here would help me. I have a 99 ifs 4x4 and want to use a dana 44. I live in California on the Orange County/LA County boarder. If someone with good experiance doing solid axle swaps can give me a hand, or even some advice, I would like to hear from you. Thank you, Terence

SAS is quite simple on just about anything. Ina pinch, just hack off ALL of the stock suspenstion, slap on some leafsprings from a jeep, and then the axle under that. Weld rear solid mounts, and fabricate a mount for free floating shackles on the front. Again, a 4x4 shop will have some nice beefy shackles for $30 a pop. Heh, thats about it. Click the search feature of this site and read anything on the solid axle swap. Best if pertaining to your make of vehicle. If you can weld, you can do a functional SAS in the better part of two days. Putting on coils or coilover shocks is harder, but can also be done. Again, search and you will find out what you need to know. Once you are shure this is what you want to do, purchace the parts you need, and then invite a few of us over. *cold beer will do the trick* While we sit there and drink, you will be gitting some good pointers and maby some help. Who knows, one of us might even help you weld. :smokin:

Hehehe. In either case, good luck to you. And have fun!

Keep on wheelin!

OK, it's not quite as simple as the barely-not-a-newbie above stated, but it isn't real difficult. First off, take care removing all the stock crap so as not to get the frame too hot. Get the frame nice a smooth to make for better welding, you also just don't want to see all that crap left behind after the torch gets it. Choosing springs isn't as easy as "slapping in some Jeep springs" as they may not offer the proper pin location for choice axle placement. Next, just do lots of measuring and sizing up. Be sure to take into account your desired tire size as this will decide where to put your axle. Your mounts will also decide how much of a lift you need in your spring, if any. Just measure and re-measure. And take some advise from me(since I can't seem to do it myself), tack everything, then measure one more time before welding the mutha' up!
Good luck, and I'm sure anyone on this board will gladly help you out. Just be wary of advice stating"slap it on." This isn't a board on making toast.;)

T, look into either some new YJ front or some 2-2.5" CJ rear lift springs to hold up your front end (that is if you have the Frontier like I'm thinking, maybe I got the wrong person). It's really a trial and error type thing, unless you get an accurate weight of your front end and then get some custom springs made. That might be your best bet. For me it was sort of a trial and error situation (that's why I have some rear YJ springs for sale), but I ended up with 2" CJ rears all around. But if you're going leafs w/ a SOA setup, expect a lot of lift. I got about 8" out of mine, and that's with the springs perfectly flat. Anyways, if I knew what I was doing and lived closer I'd help you out, but sorry. Good luck, and post pictures of course.

Thanks everyone, I am loaded down with good info now! I will go and get an axle and related stuff. I am going to use a narrow track wagoneer d44, with drivers side diff. I will want some long springs for the front, any suggestions? Ohh, my truck is a Frontier pick up, that is the main reason why this is more difficult than normal, nothing is common and few people have ever done a Nissan.:mad2: I can't wait to torch this ifs off!:nuke:

T, if you want really long springs, you'll definately need to be getting some custom ones made unless you want the hanger sticking out 6" from your bumper :) My hanger on the pathfinder comes up flush with the valence but of course I don't know the dimensions on your Frontier, so it'll be different. Good luck man.
