Is it a bad idea to run 100 octane gas mixed with red line oil in a 96 YZ 250, thats decked? The guy I bought the bike from ran half 91 half 100 octane, and ran yamalube, but i always used red line and had bottles of it around the house. I also did not see a point in running the mixed octanes. Bad idea?????

EDIT: Oh yeah, i forgot to mention. He ran it at 32:1.

Would 100 octane be bad? Cause i have a can of 100 octane sitting around and i wanted to use it.

most people will mix the lower octane with it unless the engine is heavily modified.

the motor is "decked" The head clearance is closer than stock.

ok....i would hardly consider a "decked" head as being a heavily modified motor. it just raises your compression, i would prolly still mix the fuel to be on the safe side but you may be ok with the higher compression.

you will get the greatest hp if you run the lowest octane possible but compression is what determines what octane to run and thats it...it wont hurt it running a higher octance but if its to high of a octane youll just be losing hp...higher octane just reduces detonation in high compression motors and of course runs cooler...you could always buy a lectron and go to methenol lol

For that reason I would say go ahead and run the 100 octane. Or just mix it with 87 octane.

its defintly not gonna hurt it at all so just go ahead and run it...ive ran 93 mixed wit vp110 in bone stock bikes but thats when i was young and thought high octane was the shit lol
