I've read several places that you can't use radials with the 8 bolt military wheel. Is this actually correct, and if so, why can't you use radials? Also, I will be putting the wheels on a vehicle that weighs considerably less than a HMMWV, would that matter? (My truck weighs about 4750lbs or so). This question came up after I called a military surplus dealer and he told me he's been getting some 8 bolt wheels in with the 37" radials. Since these are military take-off's I wondered if using the 8 bolt wheel with the 37" was actually doable.

I have always heard the same as far as not being designed for radials (at least in their stock configuration) -- but there are many here with lighter trucks who do it and say it's fine. I'd tend to believe the manufacturer just incase they're actually right. But, there's a reason they are so cheap.

Well, just got the quote from the machine shop for recentering the wheels. They want 182.08 each...so I guess I'm out on using Hummer wheels. Couldn't believe it was that high.

As far as the tire is concerned it's a 16.5" rim. :shaking: The magnesium runflat may have issues with a radial however. Change to a PVC style beadlock.

PS. I helped install radials on a local Fire Dept M998 years ago. We just ditched the runflats, and I used a Beadblaster to seat the tire :D
