Ok i got another buddys dodge 2003 common rail, it was smoking white smoke smelling like unburned diesel so i carefully broke some of the lines loose and number one didnt make much of a change so we pulled it out and put a new tip in it and now if you break the line free it makes the motor big time change tune and now it seems to be smoking the same if not worse??? Truck does have 203,000 miles on it, he dont want to replace all six injectors like i suggested he just wants to go cheap route , he had a edge box, bully dog out look monitor and banks six gun , i unplugged the edge and bd boxes and took the valve cover off and took one wire off and worked my way down the block they all seem to be working. Any one know the ohms for the injectors, or some ideas how to find the bad injector? I figured undoing one of the wires would stop it from putting out the white smoke it just did the opposite seems to make more smoke and it has black in it??
Any ideas let me know
Thanks

Is this occuring when the truck is warm or cold?

White exhaust typically is a sign of unburnt fuel when the motor is cold. If the grid heater is not cycling, I would suspect IAT sensor.

Agree, warm, cold, or all the time?

Also I would not crack open a CR injector line.

Yea that 24,000 psi of fuel going through those lines.

Point a handheld pyrometer on each exhaust port.

If it's not making weird noises, adding to the oil level, or running like crap tell him to deal with it because there is probably nothing wrong.
