Andy at VK Cars in Belgium (http://www.vk-cars.com/) along with others are being awesome help in my quest for finding out what the hell is inside my 404 Umimog's clutch housing. Why do I want to know?.... well cause it stopped shifting gears on me while on a test drive "after" I bought it. go figure. Anyway... quest for knowledge being done prior to wrenching is a smart move in this case cause of lots of previouse modifications were made.
Its quit a twisted tale so far. Apparently the previous owner was an instructor at a trade school in Germany. Well... he works for a "Technical University".. I think that is a trade school. Anyway he did some interesting stuff to say the least. Besides shoe horning in a 1983-84 turbo deisel engine into my 1962 Unimog he did this and other things to the tranny.
Pressure Plate.. is from G waggan
TOB is from a 406 Unimog
Cluch from a 404 Unimog
the previouse owner also machined out a guide to help the TOB work more efficiently that is simular to the one Mercedes put into the 406 Unimogs, hince the 406 TOB I guess. It may be simular to the dieselization kit that is available as well. hmmmmmm... He apparently did most of this if not all in between 1995 and 1996.
the truck has been across Iceland and the Libian Desert since.
so far the previous owner is either a genius or a flake.. I pray he is a genius.
