: One ton 14 bolt and 3/4 ton 10 bolt
trickcomanche 02-12-2008, 12:41 PM I have searched and searched. Talked to a couple of people and herd different things. I am looking at a one ton 14 bolt and 3/4 ton 10 bolt front. Im wondering how close the wms will be between the two? I wanaknow how close they will be befor I buy them. The rear is a srw.
Any help would be apreciated.
Dave
6.2Blazer 02-12-2008, 01:30 PM Just because I'm in a good mood:
Assuming it's a 14-bolt out of a single rear wheel truck, it will be around 3" narrower than the front axle in question.
Jeepocabra 02-12-2008, 01:35 PM Chevy trucks are always wider in the front than the rear.
trickcomanche 02-12-2008, 01:35 PM If that is the case, then the best way to match them up would be to swap the rear hubs on the rear? Im asuming.

But 63" vs 70" Little too much difference. lol

Where did 63" come from?
Not 3" per side, about 3" over all, 1.5" per side.
I just happen to have that exact combo out in my garage, I'll take a measure for you when I get home tonight. I'm swapping into '65 Scout.
They should be pretty close, I mean there are several million Chevy trucks built with that way. I guess it depends on what you are swapping them into.
Jeep Commanche, I assume? Given your screen name.
trickcomanche 02-12-2008, 02:08 PM Yea ther going in the ol MJ. I wheeled that poor thing hard, rolled it finally and now want to big. The 10bolt will get me by till I find a d60.

This is what Ill be working with.
trkklr77 02-12-2008, 09:00 PM d44 and 10b fronts are 71"
srw 14bff is 67.5
drw is 73 OR 63 depending.
vans are 70
all the 14bff info you will ever needvvvvvvvvv
trickcomanche 02-12-2008, 09:10 PM Yea, I have the bible saved on favorites. I have gone threw it several times. In one part it say they only came in two lengths. Then I look at the WMS table and it gives 4 different mesurments. I guess my end question is will the 8 lug 10 bolt be close enough to the wms of the 14b one ton to not be an issue. Sorry if I sound reptitive. Just dont want to spend the money if its not gonna work.
Thanx Dave

i have this setup on my 1/2 ton chevy... although your putting it on a jeep the axles themselves are a good combo.

That's the information I have also.
Regarding the question about a 10-bolt front and 14-bolt rear matching. YES, they are close enough assuming the rear is out of a SRW truck. Chevy made about a million trucks with that combo.
Donahue 02-13-2008, 11:34 AM did you measure it or is that what you've just heard?
guidolyons 02-13-2008, 11:57 AM Trickcommanche,
Just measured the 8 lug 3/4T 10 bolt in my garage = 69.5" WMS the 14BFF out back was ~67" WMS
You know the GM 10 bolt is passenger side drop, and the NP231 you have is drivers side drop? Are you planning on swapping transfercases or doing a doubler? 231/300 doubler would be :grinpimp: and would get you a driverside drop.
trickcomanche 02-13-2008, 12:15 PM Yea, gona do the D300 doubler with a cable twin shift. I already got a 4-1 in the 231 so the double low will be nice. Ive been researching for a while. So the only thing I had questions on was the GM axles. I do know jeep fairly good. Well I built mine from the ground up. LOL :D
Thanx to everyone for the info, probly be back for more.
