Hey guys,

What about an aftermarket steering column? Mike, what model are you using? And who makes the quick release steering wheel hub?

Anyone know if the steering shaft diameter and splines will work on an appropriately sized steering column? It looks to be a 3/4" shaft. I guess I could bore out the LR steering ujoint, then thread the column splines in (with the locking nut bevel cut into the splines), then tack weld them (although this seems kinda chinchy).

Steering column is a tricky thing.

On Serious One we went completely completely fabbed up from scratch.

On the crew-cab, we re-used the factory column, welded on the splined slug for the steering column end (the DPI collar comes with the splined end) www.racecentral.com was where I got my DPI collar, they also carry the UJ's we use for the shaft end, and have two versions, one splined on one end and smooth on the other, the other version is smooth on both ends.

IF you are going Saginaw the splined version will work on one version of the Saginaw box. If you are not going Saginaw, heck you can modifry the UJ's to work with the stock box.

The factory column just needs minor lathe work to make the quick release splined end slip right onto the shaft. Worked better than we thought it would actually.

Remember, the quick-release wheel is something you can do later if you don't have time to do it now. (can you tell I really really want you to finish this quickly!?!?)

www.bcboffroad.com to get a hold of Cooper and ask him some LT-230 questions.
