Thanks Matt & Lisa (The Lake Rat, westtexasoffroad.com) for sending my box out so quick... works great and the price is right...

Do you really think you a redneck when you use that computer?

Howard in Leadville...

Will be when I get it from him... I think he is doing a little R&D (Run and Destroy for non-rednecks).

Redneck? He spent time in Breckenridge, Colorado, must been nice (Although working for the resort SUCKS! )

More of story...

Talked to Matt, said he would go find an s-10 box for TJ and rebuild/port it. I go away (Rubicon 1100 miles each way). Don't have any messages from him when I get back, kinda of concerned. Call and speak to Lisa, and she says "How was your vacation? We didn't have your shipping information. We called an you were gone"

FOLLOW THROUGH, its a wonderfull thing.

Matt, one complaint. No one is going to see that redneck decal on my box with the skid plate over it. How will anyone know I am redneck (Jewish kid from New York)

Matt, now that my hydro assist works again you should send me some Redneck Ram stickers for it. You know, some free advertising. I will PM you my address if you want to send me the TTC pictures.

An S-10 box is the same as the TJ box? What year S-10? This could be a cheaper option at the yards for a replacement.

All years of S-10 boxes are a direct replacement but in order to actually upgrade you need to get an older model. I'm not exactly positive on the year that they started using the newer/weaker seal. But i would suggest getting one that is pre-90. The thing to look for is the lower seal on the sector shaft. If the retainer clip is only about 3/16" deep then it's the old style seal and is the one you want. The new style seal is about 3/8" - 1/2" deep and has a tedency to leak when used with larger tires.

I had to revive this thread in order to say

Huge props to West Texas Off Road.

I took my Astro steering box apart, drilled and tapped it for Hydro assist... and attempted to reassemble it with a rebuild kit from NAPA. That didn't go so well. So I called to WTOR, talked to a very nice lady with the last name of Hodge (I assume related to Matt)- she said "oh honey, you wouldn't believe what some of our customers have done". Re-assured me that I'm not the only dumbass to ever attempt a rebuild and then send it to them to figure out.

I sent it to them, they received it on Monday. On Thursday afternoon she called to tell me that it was done, and shipped back and what the charges would be. They didn't charge any more than a regular rebuild, even though I had parts in the WRONG place. I was fully expecting to have to pay more since I had F*CKED it up.

In any case, thanks for the excellent service- I'll be recommending WTOR to anyone that will listen.

I have been very pleased with WTO service. Great to deal with, great prices, awesome turn around on re-builds etc.
